Cowboys | Crayton unhappy that he was not told about demotion Thu, 22 Oct 2009 07:21:36 -0700 Tim MacMahon, of ESPNDallas.com, reports Dallas Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton said the coaches should have told him about his demotion to the No. 3 receiver instead of finding out during practice when WR Miles Austin worked with the first-team offense. "I would have loved it. It would have been real stand-up. That's not what happened. Oh, well," Crayton said. Head coach Wade Phillips said Crayton was told during a meeting. Crayton said he is not upset about becoming the No. 3 receiver because he wants to help the team in any possible way.

Cowboys | Not calling Austin a starter yet, but he'll get the snaps of one Tue, 13 Oct 2009 10:13:58 -0700 Continuing an ongoing storyline, David Moore, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips stopped short of declaring WR Miles Austin a starter, but the team plans for him to be on the field as much against the Atlanta Falcons when the team returns from a Bye this week as he was against the Kansas City Chiefs. "He played 58 plays in this game (vs. Chiefs) and I'm saying he's going to play 50-something plays in the next game, too," Phillips said. "We're going to get him on the field." "It would be foolish to say, 'OK, he's second team, he's behind everybody else, so he's going to play however many plays he's been playing before,'" Phillips added. Austin could start at either receiver position, although he may be more likely to replace WR Patrick Crayton due to the team's financial investment in WR Roy Williams.
Cowboys | Austin to see plenty of snaps Mon, 12 Oct 2009 12:56:42 -0700 Tim MacMahon, of ESPNDallas.com, reports Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin will play more than 50 snaps per game after his record performance in Week 5, according to head coach Wade Phillips. "We're going to get him on the field," Phillips said. "His run after the catch is so strong that if you get him the football, he's liable to make a big play. He obviously showed he could do that. We've got to get him in the game. He's got to get his touches." Phillips did not say whether Austin's increased playing time would come at the expense of WR Roy Williams or WR Patrick Crayton.

Cowboys | Crayton is the clear-cut No. 2 receiver Tue, 04 Aug 2009 18:51:49 -0700 Tim MacMahon, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach Ray Sherman doesn't believe there is any competition for the team's No. 2 receiver job. He believes it is owned by Patrick Crayton. "Patrick is the guy right now," Sherman said. "Patrick is having a very good camp, and I think the guys are really in tune. They don't care about who starts." Having Crayton as the No. 2 isn't a knock on WR Miles Austin, who is having a strong training camp. Sherman just believes the more experienced and consistent Crayton has earned the right to start.
