Arizona Diamondbacks SS Willie Bloomquist (oblique) will start the year on the disabled list with a Grade 2 right oblique strain. He's eligible to return April 11, but there will be no timetable on his recovery time.
Fantasy Tip: Didi Gregorius (elbow) is also injured and isn't ready to make the leap to the majors anyway. Cliff Pennington will be the starter to open the year. There are plenty of other attractive shortstop options than Pennington. He might be good for a few stolen bases, but his bat is nothing special at all.

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said SS Didi Gregorius will compete with SSs Willie Bloomquist and Cliff Pennington for the job at shortstop in spring training. "If he had to go back to Triple-A, I don't think it's such a bad thing. I think Triple-A at-bats would be good for him. Fortunately, we're in a situation where we've got depth at that area. Long term, having a guy like him and (Triple-A shortstop) Chris Owings, we've got two, I think industry-wide, two of the best young middle infielders in the game," Towers said about Gregorius. One talent evaluator said Gregorius could play in the big leagues right away.
