The Texas Rangers signed free-agent 1B Brad Hawpe (elbow) to a minor league deal Friday, Jan. 20. He is expected to be ready to participate at first base in spring training after having Tommy John surgery in June of last year.

At least three teams are interested in free-agent 1B Brad Hawpe (Padres), including the Texas Rangers. Hawpe could be close to signing a minor league deal that would include an invite to spring training. He is believed to be healthy after having Tommy John surgery in August.

San Diego Padres SP Aaron Harang declined his $5 million player option but didn't receive a $500,000 buyout because he fell 14 1/3 innings short of the 185 specified in his contract. The Padres declined RP Chad Qualls' $6 million option and paid him a $1.05 million buyout. OF Brad Hawpe's $6 million option was bought out for $1 million.

The San Diego Padres placed 3B Chase Headley (pinkie) and RP Ernesto Frieri (back) on the 15-day disabled list Monday, Aug. 8, and recalled IF James Darnell and SP Wade LeBlanc from Triple-A Tucson in corresponding moves. Headley has a broken left pinkie finger and Frieri has a strained lower back. LeBlanc will start against the New York Mets Tuesday, Aug. 9. 1B Brad Hawpe (elbow) was also moved to the 60-day disabled list.

San Diego Padres 1B Brad Hawpe (elbow) is done for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He winds up the season with a .231 average with four homers and 19 RBIs in 195 at-bats over 62 games.

The San Diego Padres placed 1B Brad Hawpe (finger) on the 15-day disabled list with a strained middle finger on his right hand and optioned SP Wade LeBlanc to Triple-A Tucson Tuesday, June 21. In corresponding moves, the team recalled P Josh Spence from Double-A San Antonio and C Kyle Phillips from Tucson. OF Luis Durango was also designated for assignment.
