Lance Pugmire, of the Los Angeles Times, reports former NFL WR Johnnie Morton tested positive for the steroid epitestosterone prior to his mixed martial arts fight June 2. The California State Athletic Commission has suspended Morton indefinitely and are holding the money he made from the fight.

ESPN.com reports former NFL WR Johnnie Morton was knocked out 38 seconds into the first round of his debut Mixed Martial Arts match Saturday, June 2. He was then suspended by the California State Athletic Commission after refusing to supply a urine sample for drug testing. The Los Angeles Times reported that Morton was not available to comment on the fight or the suspension.

Signed to a two-year contract before last season, Morton was slated to earn $770,000 in 2006.

Morton sees potential in the group, and he knows the 49ers have one big advantage: new receivers coach Jerry Sullivan, who helped Morton reach 1,000 yards receiving in four of his eight seasons with the Detroit Lions. Sullivan coached Morton when both were with the Detroit Lions from 1997-01. Under Sullivan, Morton had his best statistical season, catching 77 passes for 1,154 yards and four touchdowns in 2001.
