Indians | Nick Swisher making season debut

Tue, 05 May 2015 16:31:54 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B Nick Swisher is starting as the designated hitter and is batting sixth in the order against Kansas City Royals SP Jason Vargas Tuesday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: As the Indians ease Swisher ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) back into the everyday lineup, he'll likely stick at DH for at least the short term. Let him get acclimated to major league pitching again for a while before clicking on him at FantasyScore.

Indians | Nick Swisher to return Tuesday

Mon, 04 May 2015 11:35:08 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B Nick Swisher (knee) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, May 5, and OF Tyler Holt will be demoted to the minors to make room on the active roster.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is likely to be eased into the lineup initially, so he'll probably be a weak play at FantasyScore in the beginning. His return is likely to take away already limited at-bats from David Murphy ($1,900, 3.8% of cap).

Indians | Nick Swisher continues rehab

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 19:18:01 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Nick Swisher (knee) continued his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus Tuesday, April 28. He had a pair of hits and two RBIs as the designated hitter. He might be able to re-join the big club sometime next week.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners should wait until Swish is officially activated and able to make it through a full game to prove his health before trusting him again. It's only the minors, but Swisher has been crushing the ball on his rehab stint.

Indians | Nick Swisher to ramp up rehab

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 18:49:00 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Nick Swisher (knee) worked out at Progressive Field Monday, April 27, and is nearly rehab to make his regular season debut. He went 5-for-9 in a pair of minor-league rehab games with Triple-A Columbus over the weekend. "We spent some time with Nick today. He's made great progress," general manager Chris Antonetti said. Swisher will re-join Columbus Tuesday, April 28, serving as DH, before playing right field Wednesday, April 29, and then resting Thursday, April 30. He'll then play back-to-back games, and he will be re-evaluated by the team.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher might be back in early May, so FantasyScore owners have some time to wait before using him. Initially he could struggle as he knocks off the rust, although he has hit well in the early stages of his rehab stint.

Indians | Nick Swisher timeline update

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:47:01 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF/1B Nick Swisher (knee) will play with Triple-A Columbus Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25, according to manager Terry Francona. Francona added Swisher will join the team Monday, April 27, to work out and discuss the next steps in his path to rejoining the team.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has a lot to overcome before he is anything more than an AL-only option. There isn't a clear path to everyday at-bats, and he is returning from two knee surgeries at 34. Plus, he posted career-low numbers in 2014. At this point, it is advised to take a wait-and-see approach with 'Swish' in all formats.

Indians | Nick Swisher to begin rehab assignment

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 15:27:29 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Nick Swisher (knee) will report to Triple-A Columbus Thursday, April 23, and he'll begin a rehab assignment with them Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) won't be worth your time initially at FantasyScore, and the Indians could ease him back into the lineup. The fact that he's a switch hitter will make him more valuable for daily users, and it'll hurt the values of outfielders David Murphy, Ryan Raburn and Jerry Sands. Swisher isn't of much use to owners in leagues other than AL-only formats.

Indians | Nick Swisher expected to begin rehab soon

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 12:40:50 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B/OF Nick Swisher (knee) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus sometime this week.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher is a FantasyScore afterthought until he returns and strings together a few solid games. He doesn't deserve attention in the majority of seasonal leagues, either.

Indians | Nick Swisher nearing rehab stint

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 18:22:10 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Nick Swisher (knee) has been playing in extended spring games since last week, and he might begin a minor-league rehab assignment with one of the team's affiliates by next week. "He could start a rehab assignment potentially sometime as early as next week," general manager Chris Antonetti said Tuesday, April 14. "It doesn't mean he's that close (to playing for the Indians). He still has to work through playing back-to-back nine-inning games, playing in the outfield and seeing how he recovers."

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Swisher will be out a while, and he can spend 20 days on a rehab assignment. FantasyScore need not pay him any mind for the time being. When he returns, he might play some first base, but most of his work is expected to be in the outfield.

Indians | Nick Swisher playing OF

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 08:30:45 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B Nick Swisher (knee) has been playing some outfield in extended spring training games.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) had just 401 plate appearances in 97 games with the Indians last year due to injuries. Swisher had hit 20-plus home runs in nine consecutive seasons before hitting just eight in 2014. With Swisher representing a major injury risk, owners should stay away, and FantasyScore owners should wait to see some results before investing.

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 16:41:39 -0700

He will continue to play in extended spring training games until begins a rehab assignment in a few weeks. There is no official timetable for Swisher's return at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye out on Swisher's ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) situation in order to have a better idea of when he will be able to join the lineup. Owners on FantasyScore should avoid Swisher until he is able to play on a regular basis.
