Despite the fact Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez is returning for one final season in 2013, general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the team will still look to tight end in the upcoming NFL Draft. "You don't deviate from your plan when you go into the draft after bringing a guy back. We don't know if we are going to have Tony Gonzalez past one year. Our eyes are still on many positions in this draft and there is no question - this may be selling it out a little bit - but we continue to look at the tight end (position)," Dimitroff said Friday, April 5.

Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said 2013 will be his last season even though he signed a two-year deal. He said he is a little tempted to try to break the all-time receiving record but understands it would probably take him four years to break the record.
Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is still a top tight end in the NFL even if he is in the latter stages of his career. He should definitely be a top-five tight end next season and should continue to be a consistent fantasy producer because he is a part of one of the best offenses in the league.

You know what? We've got a great football team, and I look forward to seeing what we can do this year."

Free-agent TE Tony Gonzalez (Falcons) is expected to inform the Atlanta Falcons this week that he will re-sign with the team and will return for the 2013 season.
Fantasy Tip: After this offense's explosion and his revival in 2012, Gonzalez would earn top-five, if not top-three, consideration for this position as a Falcon on draft day. He'll remain a better investment in PPRs than in non-, though; he'll often be a frustrating play, and at age 37 he may lose just a hair of burst, which may disappoint overzealous bidders.
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 10:03:12 -0700
Free-agent TE Tony Gonzalez (Falcons) could re-sign with the Atlanta Falcons if the price is right and if the team would allow him to miss most if not all of training camp. The team is cautiously optimistic about re-signing Gonzalez and neither issue is expected to be a deal breaker.

Sun, 20 Jan 2013 17:21:19 -0800
Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez indicated after the NFC Championship Game loss against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Jan. 20, that he likely played in his final NFL game. "It's probably the last time I'm going to wear that uniform," Gonzalez said. "I didn't want to take it off, to tell you the truth. All good things come to an end and, like I said all season long, this is probably my last one. What an unbelievable ride."
Fantasy Tip: While Gonzalez indicated during the season he might be done, he played at a high level again this season, including eight grabs for 78 yards and a touchdown against the 49ers. While comments shortly after an emotional loss can usually be taken with a grain of salt, Gonzalez isn't getting any younger and will have ample opportunities after his football career ends. His departure would thin the fantasy pool at a position that is weak as it is. Good luck to No. 88 if this was it, as he had a great and Hall of Fame career.

But the biggest thing is it's got to be a good decision for him and his family. Whatever he decides I'll support him in that, and I'm just thankful that I've had the four years I've had with him."
