Falcons | Tony Gonzalez explains decision to return

Wed, 19 Jun 2013 12:08:52 -0700

Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said he decided to return because his son told him he owed it to himself to take another shot at winning a championship. "But really it came down to what my little 12-year-old boy said. He said, 'You know what, Dad, you got a great football team, you guys got a chance to go get a Super Bowl,' and he knows that's the only reason I'm playing at this point. So he said go back and try it one more time. So that's why I'm here, that's why I'm going to be coming back," he said. Gonzalez said he was leaning toward retirement because he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez was still playing at a high level last season and will be playing in the same offense this season with the same skill position players. Gonzalez should be a strong No. 1 fantasy tight end this season.

Falcons | Will still look to TE in draft

Fri, 05 Apr 2013 19:25:16 -0700

Despite the fact Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez is returning for one final season in 2013, general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the team will still look to tight end in the upcoming NFL Draft. "You don't deviate from your plan when you go into the draft after bringing a guy back. We don't know if we are going to have Tony Gonzalez past one year. Our eyes are still on many positions in this draft and there is no question - this may be selling it out a little bit - but we continue to look at the tight end (position)," Dimitroff said Friday, April 5.

Falcons | Tony Gonzalez says 2013 will be last year

Fri, 05 Apr 2013 10:21:21 -0700

Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said 2013 will be his last season even though he signed a two-year deal. He said he is a little tempted to try to break the all-time receiving record but understands it would probably take him four years to break the record.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is still a top tight end in the NFL even if he is in the latter stages of his career. He should definitely be a top-five tight end next season and should continue to be a consistent fantasy producer because he is a part of one of the best offenses in the league.

Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said returning for the 2013 season was the right thing to do after talking to teammates, coaches and team personnel. You know what? We've got a great football team, and I look forward to seeing what we can do this year."

Falcons | Tony Gonzalez expected to return

Sun, 10 Mar 2013 13:51:07 -0700

Free-agent TE Tony Gonzalez (Falcons) is expected to inform the Atlanta Falcons this week that he will re-sign with the team and will return for the 2013 season.

Fantasy Tip: After this offense's explosion and his revival in 2012, Gonzalez would earn top-five, if not top-three, consideration for this position as a Falcon on draft day. He'll remain a better investment in PPRs than in non-, though; he'll often be a frustrating play, and at age 37 he may lose just a hair of burst, which may disappoint overzealous bidders.

Falcons | Tony Gonzalez could return

Sun, 10 Mar 2013 10:03:12 -0700

Free-agent TE Tony Gonzalez (Falcons) could re-sign with the Atlanta Falcons if the price is right and if the team would allow him to miss most if not all of training camp. The team is cautiously optimistic about re-signing Gonzalez and neither issue is expected to be a deal breaker.
