The Kansas City Chiefs have announced they have they have re-signed unrestricted free-agent FS Jerome Woods to a one-year deal so he can retire as a member of the team. Woods will be placed on the Chiefs' Reserve/Retired list Friday, June 8.

Chiefs | Woods would not accept pay cut so he was released

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports S Jerome Woods would not accept a pay cut from the Kansas City Chiefs so he was released. The drafting of safeties Bernard Pollard in the second round and Jarrad Page in the seventh round made Woods expendable. They also have incumbent starters S Greg Wesley and S Sammy Knight and veteran backup S William Bartee. Woods was not participating in the Chiefs' offseason workouts. When contacted at his offseason home in Memphis, Tenn., Woods said he would try continuing his career elsewhere.

The Sports Xchange reports the Kansas City Chiefs must come to some understanding with long-time S Jerome Woods. He no longer figures in their plans but it would cost the Chiefs around $3.5 million against their 2006 salary cap to cut him.
