Tue, 05 Mar 2013 00:56:52 -0800 Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney, who is suffering from allergies, was sent home Monday, March 4, to rest since he was not scheduled to play against the Boston Red Sox. Manager Joe Maddon said he expects Loney to make his start Tuesday, March 5, against the Minnesota Twins.
Tue, 04 Dec 2012 09:10:04 -0800 The Cleveland Indians had serious interest in 1B James Loney before he signed with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 05:44:27 -0800 The Tampa Bay Rays signed free-agent 1B James Loney (Red Sox) to a one-year, $2 million deal with $1 million in possible incentives.
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 00:41:37 -0800 The Tampa Bay Rays are close to signing free-agent 1B James Loney (Red Sox), according to a major league source. Loney, 28, would replace free-agent 1B Carlos Pena, who batted .197 last season. Loney hit a combined .249 for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. The deal is expected to be for one year.
Fri, 02 Nov 2012 16:17:38 -0700 The Boston Red Sox extended a $13.3 million qualifying offer to free-agent DH David Ortiz Friday, Nov. 2, assuring that they'll receive draft-pick compensation should he sign elsewhere. However, the two sides are "very close" to agreeing on a two-year deal, according to a source close to negotiations. The team didn't extend offers to free-agent OF Scott Podsednik, OF Cody Ross, SP Aaron Cook, SP Daisuke Matsuzaka, SP Vicente Padilla or 1B James Loney.
Thu, 25 Oct 2012 14:28:33 -0700 The chances of Boston Red Sox 1B James Loney returning next year are less than 50-50, according to a source. The team will not talk a contract with him before he's eligible to become a free agent. If anything, he'll be given a one-year deal to remain in a platoon spot at first base.
Sun, 26 Aug 2012 10:28:45 -0700 Boston Red Sox 1B James Loney has been activated to the 25-man roster. In corresponding moves, OF Che-Hsuan Lin was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket and RP Pedro Beato was recalled from Pawtucket.
Sat, 25 Aug 2012 11:00:54 -0700 Confirming a previous report, the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired SP Josh Beckett, OF Carl Crawford, 1B Adrian Gonzalez and INF Nick Punto from the Boston Red Sox, in exchange for INF Ivan De Jesus, SP Rubby De La Rosa, 1B James Loney, OF Jerry Sands and SP Allen Webster. Fantasy Tip: A-Gon's power outage this year is well documented; his oppo-hitting style didn't mesh well with Fenway and the Green Monster. Sitting in the middle of a now potent Blue lineup and back near his Southern California home, his production should rise, but don't expect the power to suddenly re-emerge now that he's back in the NL and in another unfriendly hitting environment. Beckett has been inconsistent and injured often in his age-32 season that has seen his K/9 drop considerably. His evolving arsenal and lack of spunk on his offerings has left him vulnerable to the long ball and unable to find any kind of rhythm. The move across the coast and to a pitcher's park is a positive, but it often takes Beckett some time to settle in. Crawford should be ready for the start of next season after undergoing Tommy John surgery this week, but as was the case this year, his rehab could drag into spring training, making him a potential bargain in 2013 drafts. Loney was basically a throw-in here; his good contact skills but below average power profile and struggles against lefties have capped his value. He, along with the rest of the Dodgers package sent to Boston, is purely AL-only material. Webster and De La Rosa are promising pitching prospects that could become a factor next season in Boston's rotation.
Sat, 25 Aug 2012 10:32:00 -0700 Confirming a previous report, the Boston Red Sox have traded SP Josh Beckett, OF Carl Crawford, 1B Adrian Gonzalez and INF Nick Punto to the Los Angeles Dodgers, in exchange for INF Ivan De Jesus, SP Rubby De La Rosa, 1B James Loney, OF Jerry Sands and SP Allen Webster.
Fri, 24 Aug 2012 17:24:59 -0700 The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to send SPs Allen Webster and Rubby De La Rosa, 1B James Loney, OF Jerry Sands and INF Ivan De Jesus to the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox have agreed to send 1B Adrian Gonzalez, SP Josh Beckett, OF Carl Crawford and INF Nick Punto. However, the trade isn't official because medical reviews are still being examined and no-trade clauses must be waived. The deal is expected to be finalized Friday, Aug. 24, though. De La Rosa will be the player to be named because he didn't pass through waivers.
