NFL | Larry Fitzgerald supports bounty suspensions

Wed, 09 May 2012 06:09:23 -0700

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald said that he feels badly for the New Orleans Saints players who were suspended as a result of the league's investigation into bounties; however, he doesn't think the league could sit by and do nothing when it learned of the Saints' bounty program. "I've known Jonathan Vilma for a very long time, and Will Smith actually hosted me on my visit to Ohio State in college," Fitzgerald said. "So I've known these guys for a really long time and they're not bad men by any stretch of the imagination. I feel bad that they're losing game checks and losing the opportunity to make a living. But I think Roger Goodell, our commissioner, had to do something to let everybody know that this is not going to be tolerated, and moving forward this is not something that's going to be acceptable."

"Right now, teams are saying, 'Fitzgerald is over here, we're not going to let him beat us. We're going to do whatever it takes to hold him down and not allow him to do that.' Cardinals | Looking to keep Larry Fitzgerald

Sat, 23 Jul 2011 10:55:02 -0700

When considering which quarterback to pursue when the NFL opens for business, the Arizona Cardinals will consider all of the typical factors as well as whether the deal will help them re-sign WR Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is entering the final year of his contract with the Cardinals, and his contract prevents the team from trading him or using the transition or franchise tags on him. As a result, the Cardinals will need to use a new quarterback and money as their ways to convince him to stay with them long term.

Arizona is willing to make him the highest-paid receiver in the league, but other teams may be willing to do the same.

Fitzgerald has disputed reports that he has advised head coach Ken Whisenhunt and general manager Rod Graves in their search for a quarterback. "There's not truth to that at all," Fitzgerald said recently. "There are much more pressing needs for our team than me. I'm under contract. My situation will work itself out. I'm not worried about it; the team shouldn't be, either. I want to be a Cardinal."

Cardinals | Eagles' Kevin Kolb viewed as best option

Sat, 23 Jul 2011 10:53:23 -0700

The Arizona Cardinals rate Philadelphia Eagles backup QB Kevin Kolb as the best quarterback available this offseason. However, obtaining him could be very expensive, possibly costing the Cardinals CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a draft choice or two. The Cardinals would then also want to sign Kolb to a long-term contract.

The Cardinals would also like approval of Kolb by star WR Larry Fitzgerald, as they want to make Fitz happy. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt talked with Fitzgerald about the quarterback position before the NFL lockout. The team wants Fitzgerald's opinion, although Fitzgerald does not have veto power in the process.
