Mon, 17 Jun 2013 14:21:50 -0700 The Texas Rangers plan on making SS Jurickson Profar into a left fielder to keep his bat in the lineup. They hope to have him ready to make the move in seven to 10 days, according to FOXSportsSouthwest.com's Anthony Andro. Fantasy Tip: Profar's bat is far too valuable to be left out of the lineup. David Murphy, and to a lesser extent, Craig Gentry, will be most affected by this plan. Profar should be owned in all leagues now that we know he'll continue to see regular playing time with Ian Kinsler back in the fold.
Tue, 14 May 2013 20:23:50 -0700 Texas Rangers OF David Murphy (back) is playing through discomfort in his lower back, the result of a collision with the outfield wall Saturday, May 11, against the Houston Astros. "It's just stiff," Murphy said Tuesday, May 14. "It doesn't hurt but I have a hard time getting loose."
Sun, 12 May 2013 10:44:25 -0700 Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said OF David Murphy was OK after crashing into the wall in left field while attempting to catch a double by Houston Astros OF Robbie Grossman in the eighth inning Saturday, May 11. He appeared to be shaken up but remained in the game.
Sat, 04 May 2013 16:06:39 -0700 Texas Rangers OF David Murphy (illness) was not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 4, because of a stomach virus.
Fri, 03 May 2013 16:49:03 -0700 Texas Rangers OF David Murphy was out of the lineup again Friday, May 3, against the Boston Red Sox, as manager Ron Washington used 3B Jeff Baker in left field instead. While Washington insisted this week there is no platoon in left field, he did say the key to beating the Red Sox is timely hitting. Fantasy Tip: Washington didn't come right out and say it, but you can read between the lines. Baker has been hot while Murphy has not, bottom line. If you're a fantasy owner of Murphy, it might be a good idea to reserve him until he gets back on track.
Thu, 02 May 2013 14:18:13 -0700 Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said there is no platoon in left field between OFs David Murphy and Jeff Baker. Baker is starting over Murphy again Thursday, May 2. Fantasy Tip: Murphy has been off to a slow start this year, and he's uncharacteristically struggling against right-handers. Washington is resting Murphy more often as a result, and Baker has benefitted. Baker, while he's seeing more PT, should be acquired in AL formats.
Mon, 29 Apr 2013 16:01:38 -0700 Texas Rangers OF David Murphy is hitting only .176 entering Monday, April 29, but he's only been a career .228 hitter in the first month of the season. He's never had more than two home runs in April. The strange thing is that he's hitting 57 points worse against right-handed pitchers than lefties. Murphy has 15 strikeouts in 91 at-bats and has just six walks.
Tue, 23 Apr 2013 19:58:45 -0700 Texas Rangers 3B Jeff Baker (leg) left the game Tuesday, April 23, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim due to an apparent right leg injury. He left the game and was replaced by OF David Murphy.
Mon, 22 Apr 2013 11:54:55 -0700 Texas Rangers 2B Jeff Baker will likely start against a left-handed pitcher Tuesday, April 23, and he is 5-for-14 (.357) this year with good career numbers versus southpaws. Baker could either play left field or first base with both OF David Murphy and 1B Mitch Moreland struggling against lefties. Fantasy Tip: Baker won't be getting enough playing time to be considered in mixed leagues, and he should only be added if you're desperate for an outfielder in deep AL formats.
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 18:00:46 -0700 Texas Rangers OF David Murphy entered Cactus League spring play Sunday, March 10, with a five-game hitting streak, posting multi-hit games in three of the past seven outings. He is hitting .429 (9-for-21) during the span. Fantasy Tip: Murphy is currently slated to start in left field for the Rangers, while also seeing time at the designated hitter spot. He is a solid hitter worth adding in the middle rounds of AL-only fantasy leagues, and the late rounds in mixed play. Murphy could really surprise in 2013.
