Tue, 21 May 2013 16:41:51 -0700 Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) had more tightness in his hamstring Tuesday, May 21, and won't return until he's symptom-free. "Right now, we still think this is a short-term thing, but we've got to let this continue to subside," manager John Farrell said. It's unknown at this point if Victorino will have to land on the disabled list, and they likely won't make a decision for another few days. Fantasy Tip: Victorino just can't seem to stay healthy after dealing with a lower back problem recently, too. Keep him on your bench until he's ready, but you'll also have to prepare for him to land on the disabled list. Have backup options at your disposal. Daniel Nava will benefit the most from increased playing time if Victorino goes on the DL.
Tue, 21 May 2013 16:28:37 -0700 Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell is sticking with OF Jacoby Ellsbury at leadoff even though he is 3-for-24 through seven games of the team's nine-game road trip. Farrell was considering dropping Ellsbury down, but OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) has been dealing with multiple injuries. Victorino is not in the lineup Tuesday, May 21. "We're sticking with (Ellsbury) to hopefully give him the opportunity to come out of the situation that he's in right now," Farrell said. "But I can say this: Whether he's hitting first or whether he's hitting somewhere else in the lineup, there are still things that we need to address, that he needs to address, and those are ongoing." Ellsbury has just three walks in his last nine games and hasn't homered in 162 at-bats, but Farrell doesn't think Ellsbury is swinging too hard. Fantasy Tip: Be patient with Ellsbury during his slump, and if you have to, sit him on the bench until he comes through it. As Scott Lauber points out, Ellsbury's power was slow to develop during his MVP-caliber 2011 season, as well, so there is still plenty of time for him to get his timing down.
Mon, 20 May 2013 19:23:01 -0700 Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) left the team's game Monday, May 20, with left hamstring tightness.
Mon, 20 May 2013 19:07:07 -0700 Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (undisclosed) left the team's game Monday, May 20. Victorino was walking gingerly as he left the field.
Sat, 18 May 2013 12:31:29 -0700 Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (back) and SS Stephen Drew (back) are not in the lineup against the Minnesota Twins Saturday, May 18.
Fri, 17 May 2013 14:39:04 -0700 Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (back) is being listed as day-to-day with a sore back. He's hoping to return Saturday, May 18.
Fri, 17 May 2013 12:48:17 -0700 Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (back) is out of the lineup after aggravating his back injury Thursday, May 16. Fantasy Tip: Daniel Nava and Jonny Gomes will once again gain at-bats if Victorino is out for an extended stretch. It seems more likely that Victorino could land on the disabled list this time around. Nava, who is a switch hitter, should be your first target in deep mixed leagues.
Mon, 13 May 2013 13:18:34 -0700 Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (ribs, back) has been cleared to play after colliding with the right field wall Sunday, May 12. X-rays on his ribs and back came back negative Monday, May 13. Fantasy Tip: Victorino dodged a bullet here, especially since he was dealing with lower back injuries recently. Expect him to return to the lineup tomorrow or Wednesday.
Mon, 13 May 2013 12:00:19 -0700 Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (undisclosed) was taken to a hospital after slamming into the outfield fence Sunday, May 12, but his tests came back negative, according to a baseball source. Victorino expects to play in the team's next game Tuesday, May 14. "With the way Shane hit the wall, he started to stiffen up as the game went on," manager John Farrell said. "Given what he's been dealing with lower back-wise, we weren't going to take any chances further today." Fantasy Tip: Victorino missed time last month with a lower back injury, so the team will be cautious not to bring him back too soon. However, Victorino's new ailment doesn't appear to be serious enough to keep him out for long.
Fri, 03 May 2013 16:20:55 -0700 Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said OF Shane Victorino (back) will not play every day in order to make sure his lower back injury doesn't return. However, he will not have physical restrictions in terms of stealing bases or switch hitting.
