Boston Red Sox OF Carl Crawford (elbow) may be allowed to start swinging a bat this weekend but it is not known when he will be cleared to throw again. He is not expected to return to the team until at least some point in July.

Boston Red Sox OF Carl Crawford (elbow) said he believes he will be able to hit first before beginning to throw during his rehab. Crawford hopes to start throwing in a few weeks but does not know how fast he will be able to return once he is cleared to throw. He said his surgically repaired wrist is doing fine.

The Boston Red Sox recalled SP Aaron Cook from the minors Thursday, May 3, and moved OF Carl Crawford (elbow, wrist) to the 60-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

Boston Red Sox OF Carl Crawford (elbow) shagged balls in the outfield Wednesday, May 2, but he isn't throwing or swinging a bat yet. He could be cleared to swing if he passes an exam on his left elbow next week.

Updating previous reports, Boston Red Sox OF Carl Crawford (elbow) has a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, an injury that typically requires Tommy John surgery, but Crawford will instead opt for conservative treatment. He's expected to miss another three months, but Crawford thinks he'll return sooner. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection and will be shut down from baseball activities for the time being.
