Dodgers | Mark Ellis working out, Carl Crawford not

Fri, 03 May 2013 14:11:09 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis (quadriceps) is taking batting practice Friday, May 3, but OF Carl Crawford (hamstring) isn't, and he hasn't taken fly balls in the outfield since hurting his leg.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford has developed a reputation as a slow healer and a player that is often injured. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Dodgers place him on the disabled list, so make plans in case that happens. Skip Schumaker and Jerry Hairston Jr. can both play left field if Crawford is out for extended time.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford allowed to throw without limitations

Wed, 17 Apr 2013 09:34:31 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford is continuing to build arm strength in his recovery from Tommy John surgery last fall. Trainers have cleared him to bypass the cutoff man to throw to a base when the situation calls for it. Opponents haven't been afraid to test the outfielder on balls hit to him this season.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford doesn't have the strongest arm in baseball, but this should improve LA's defensive efficiency ever so slightly in the long run. More importantly for fantasy owners, it's another positive sign that helps to mitigate long-term concerns about the health of Crawford's arm as it relates to his performance in the batter's box. A setback may still be possible, but his owners have to feel good about drafting him.
