Tue, 18 Jun 2013 12:23:55 -0700 The New York Yankees placed 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, June 18, and recalled P Adam Warren and OF Zoilo Almonte from the minors in corresponding moves. Also, RP Chris Bootcheck was designated for assignment. Fantasy Tip: GM Brian Cashman hinted yesterday that this would happen. The good news is that there's no structural damage in Teixeira's right wrist. However, there's still the possibility that he'll need season-ending surgery. Monitor his progress and hold onto him for now. Lyle Overbay should see the majority of starts at first base again in Tex's absence, making him relevant in AL-only leagues once again.
Mon, 17 Jun 2013 14:04:06 -0700 Updating a previous report, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he is leaning toward putting 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) on the disabled list. Teixeira won't play for a week at the minimum after receiving a cortisone shot in his right wrist. Cashman said that Teixeira doesn't need season-ending surgery yet, but it's a possibility. Hitting coach Kevin Long thinks Teixeira is a "shell" of himself because his injured wrist has caused his left-handed swing to lack the "whip and the bat speed you see right-handed."
Mon, 17 Jun 2013 12:11:34 -0700 New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he is leaning toward placing 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) on the 15-day disabled list. Fantasy Tip: Teixeira recently came off the DL but it appears like he probably will go back on because of his injury. Lyle Overbay and possibly Thomas Neal could see time at first base if Teixeira is out for an extended period of time. Both could be options in AL-only leagues if available, but Overbay likely would have some value in deeper mixed leagues.
Mon, 17 Jun 2013 12:10:50 -0700 New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is "leaning toward" placing 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) on the disabled list. Fantasy Tip: Teixeira's MRI exam showed no new tears in his right wrist, but he still may not be able to avoid going back on the disabled list. The possibility of surgery probably still exists now that he's had a setback. That would likely cause him to miss the rest of the year. Lyle Overbay will become relevant in at least AL-only leagues again if Tex lands on the shelf.
Sun, 16 Jun 2013 11:07:42 -0700 Updating previous reports, New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said an MRI exam on 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) revealed inflammation but no new tear in his right wrist. He received a cortisone shot and will be reevaluated in several days.
Sat, 15 Jun 2013 18:25:55 -0700 Updating a previous report, New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) left the game Saturday, June 15, after aggravating a right wrist injury. He is scheduled to meet with the team's doctor Sunday, June 16.
Sat, 15 Jun 2013 17:41:40 -0700 New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (undisclosed) left the team's game Saturday, June 15, because of an undisclosed injury. Manager Joe Girardi said Teixeira did not feel the same snap in his swing as usual. Teixeira will get a few days off before being reevaluated.
Sat, 01 Jun 2013 20:57:51 -0700 New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira, who just returned from the disabled list , said he'll no longer perform his repetitive pregame ritual of swinging at balls off a tee with a weighted bat. It likely contributed to him partially tearing the sheath surrounding the tendon around his right wrist this spring. Teixeira said he doesn't feel any soreness or stiffness in his wrist, though. Fantasy Tip: Teixeira's a notoriously slow starter and may take a bit to heat up during the summer. His deliberate rehab, however, should work in his favor, and he could wind up offering a solid power boost, even if his declining batting-average peripherals continue their tumble.
Fri, 31 May 2013 12:49:24 -0700 The New York Yankees activated 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) and 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) from the disabled list Friday, May 31, and optioned SPs Ivan Nova and Vidal Nuno to the minors in a corresponding move. Fantasy Tip: Get Tex and Youk back into your starting lineups. Youkilis is still available in less than 50 percent of leagues. He should be owned, considering the lack of depth at the third base position. Youkilis is serving as the designated hitter, with David Adams at third base.
Wed, 29 May 2013 12:27:24 -0700 New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) and 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) both appear healthy and ready to return from the disabled list Friday, May 31. Both players will first rehab with Double-A Trenton for two games this week before rejoining the Yankees, though. Teixeira went hitless with a walk Wednesday and Youkilis went hitless with a walk, as well. Teixeira has been pain-free in his rehab but admitted that he's further along from the right side of the plate than the left. Fantasy Tip: The return of Tex and Youk will push Lyle Overbay and David Adams out of regular work and possibly roster spots. Jayson Nix will continue to see time at shortstop until Eduardo Nunez (oblique) returns. Expect Joe Girardi to look to rest Teixeira and Youkilis frequently initially, but both should be put in your lineup on a daily basis.
