Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen have both spoken with QB Carson Palmer since they were hired and are excited about what he can bring to the team. McKenzie said he had a face-to-face meeting with Palmer. "He came to see me, and he's excited, and we're both excited for him," McKenzie said.

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said he wants the offense to be up tempo and has spoken with QB Carson Palmer about how he wants the offense to be played under him. Allen said Palmer was excited about how the offense will be handled.

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said Tuesday, Jan. 10, that he understood the deal for QB Carson Palmer. "Now, bringing in Carson at the time the Raiders brought him in, to me, as a player, that's a good move," McKenzie said. "I think he's a good quarterback. Period." Palmer has a $12.5 million salary for 2012, $5 million of which became guaranteed as part of the trade with the Cincinnati Bengals at midseason.

Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson said QB Carson Palmer will benefit from having an entire offseason of work with teammates. Jackson feels there should not be any concerns over Palmer's prior arm issues moving forward. "I think, obviously, he has some strong characteristics throwing the ball. I mean, he's proven that. I think he's disproved all the issues with his arm. I don't think anybody can bring those subjects up anymore," Jackson said. "I think that Carson needs a strong offseason, with his teammates, with the players, training camp. And then let's see what he can be then."

Oakland Raiders QB Carson Palmer completed 28 of 43 passes for 417 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Week 17 against the San Diego Chargers. He also ran twice for six yards. Palmer's 417 yards were actually third-most in team history, behind only QB Jeff Hostetler's 424 yards (1993) and QB Cotton Davidson's 419 yards (1964). In nine starts, Palmer managed four 300-yard games, and missed another by just one yard in Week 10. He also had two or more interceptions in five of his 10 appearances.

Oakland Raiders QB Carson Palmer said he has told players that they must keep things simple heading into a must-win situation in Week 17. Palmer said the team has to treat this week as just another game. "I don't think you make too big of a deal of it," Palmer said. "It's another game. All games are important, all games we need to win. Especially with young guys who don't have a lot of experience, you don't want to freak anyone out or make people think you need to play differently or make a spectacular play or do anything out of the ordinary."

Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson said Wednesday, Dec. 28, that he engineered a trade in October for QB Carson Palmer for games such as Week 17 against the San Diego Chargers. "He has to (pull off a win)," Jackson said. "There's no other alternative. This is a great opportunity to do it here at home. That's why we made the trade, is to have this opportunity. If not, why do it? It's about winning. And so we've got a chance to win a huge football game this Sunday."
