St. Louis Cardinals RP Marc Rzepczynski credited RP Octavio Dotel (now with the Detroit Tigers) with helping him with his confidence down the stretch last season. "Having Dotel there meant a lot to me," Rzepczynski said. "He just said, 'Go out there and trust your stuff.' I knew that I would have a (disappointing) game here and there. There was a game in the playoffs (against Philadelphia) where I gave up three singles. But I didn't let it bother me. I went out the next day with a fresh outlook." He has a lot more confidence heading into the new season. RP Arthur Rhodes was also credited with helping the youngster.

The St. Louis Cardinals offered free-agent 1B Albert Pujols (Cardinals) salary arbitration, but he is most likely to decline the offer. The team also offered arbitration to free-agent SP Edwin Jackson (Cardinals), but didn't do the same for RP Octavio Dotel, SS Rafael Furcal and RP Arthur Rhodes.

The St. Louis Cardinals are likely to exercise C Yadier Molina's $7 million option for 2012. The team also holds options on RPs Arthur Rhodes and Octavio Dotel but is unlikely to exercise them. They could be brought back at lower costs.

St. Louis Cardinals RP Arthur Rhodes attracted some interest from the Philadelphia Phillies before he signed with St. Louis upon his release from the Texas Rangers. "It was close with Philly," Rhodes said. "But they wanted to send me down to Clearwater and get some work in. I had enough work in for 4 months. Why should I go down to Clearwater and wait and if I don't get called up, I'd be at home?" The Boston Red Sox were also interested.

St. Louis Cardinals RP Jason Motte allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits without recording an out in Game 2 of the World Series. RP Arthur Rhodes was charged with the blown save, but Motte received the loss.
