Tue, 04 Jun 2013 16:31:33 -0700 Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez acknowledged that it's proving tough to get C Evan Gattis in the lineup, despite the fact that he's second on the team with 12 home runs and 32 RBIs. Gattis can play catcher, first base and left field, but C Brian McCann and 1B Freddie Freeman are swinging the bat well right now, and OFs Jason Heyward and B.J. Upton are showing signs of life. Fantasy Tip: We knew this situation would present itself sooner or later, but Gonzalez will try to get Gattis in the lineup whenever he can when someone needs a breather. As a result of Gattis' inconsistent playing time, it's tough to hang onto him in deep mixed leagues if you have other pressing needs.
Mon, 22 Apr 2013 14:53:53 -0700 Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (oblique) won't be restricted, and he'll be playing both games of a doubleheader Tuesday, April 23. Fantasy Tip: Freeman was activated from the DL today, but the team's game was postponed. Keep him in your lineup on a daily basis, as he appears to be completely healed from his oblique injury.
Mon, 22 Apr 2013 10:11:43 -0700 Atlanta Braves general manager Frank Wren said the team has activated 1B Freddie Freeman (oblique) from the 15-day disabled list and that he will be able to play Monday, April 22. Fantasy Tip: Freeman should be added to starting lineups in fantasy leagues because he will resume his starting first baseman's job with the Braves.
Sun, 21 Apr 2013 10:07:32 -0700 Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said he is considering making 3B Chris D. Johnson as the team's regular third baseman once 1B Freddie Freeman (oblique) comes off the 15-day disabled list.
Sun, 21 Apr 2013 09:56:47 -0700 Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (oblique) could come off the 15-day disabled list Monday, April 22, if his final rehab game with Triple-A Gwinnett goes well Sunday, April 21. Fantasy Tip: Owners should look to activate Freeman from their disabled list and should add him to their lineup for next week if he does rejoin the team Monday.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 12:10:15 -0700 Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (oblique) will work out with Triple-A Gwinnett Thursday, April 18, and then play three games this weekend. If he doesn't have any setbacks, he could be activated from the disabled list Monday, April 22. Fantasy Tip: The news that Freeman will have a very short minor league rehab stint speaks to the fact that his oblique injury wasn't that serious to begin with. This is very positive for his owners, who should expect to have him back at some point next week.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 10:40:52 -0700 Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (oblique) was scheduled to be examined by a doctor on Tuesday, April 16. The first baseman seems to have moved past his displeasure with the fact that the team placed him on the DL without informing him first. The club's position is that sometimes players need to be protected from themselves. Fantasy Tip: The results of the examination are still unclear, but there seems to be no issue with his recovery to this point, considering that he took light BP that day. Freeman may not need a rehab assignment before he returns. He's eligible for activation on Monday, April 22.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 14:14:00 -0700 Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (oblique) took swings for the first time Tuesday, April 16, and "felt fine." He's eligible to return from the disabled list Monday, April 22. Fantasy Tip: It's unknown if Atlanta will have Freeman go on a short rehab assignment, but if he does, his return will be delayed a bit. Regardless, Freeman appears to be making a quick return, which will put a smile on his owners' faces.
Sun, 07 Apr 2013 09:07:11 -0700 The Atlanta Braves have placed 1B Freddie Freeman (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right oblique muscle. He had played through discomfort through the first five games and was the on-deck batter when OF Justin Upton hit a walkoff homer against the Chicago Cubs Saturday, April 6. However, the team decided to place Freeman on the DL after he jumped in pain when trainer Jeff Porter touched the affected area following the game. Fantasy Tip: Freeman was unhappy with the decision to be placed on the DL and claimed he could have continued to play through the pain. 3B Chris Johnson will move across the diamond to play first base in his absence, with INF Juan Francisco being used regularly at third base.
Wed, 20 Feb 2013 13:40:00 -0800 Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (finger) said the finger that affected his swing last season is now pain-free, and he's feeling strong and healthy heading into the season. Freeman also reported to camp weighing 237 pounds, which is 11 pounds below what he weighed last season. He lost weight in the offseason working out with 2B Dan Uggla and following a lean-meat and fruit-and-vegetable-heavy diet. Freeman also thinks he has his eye situation under control with new contacts and lubricant for his eyes. He will wear custom-made clear sunglasses during games.
