Cleveland Indians C Carlos Santana threw out three out of four would-be base stealers Friday, May 18, against the Miami Marlins. He has cut down eight of 25 baserunners this season. That made up for an 0-for-4 night with two strikeouts.

Cleveland Indians OF Shin-Soo Choo, SS Asdrubal Cabrera and C Carlos Santana all homered in a winning effort Tuesday, May 15. Choo's homer was his second, Cabrera now has four and Santana has five homers on the season.

The Cleveland Indians and C Carlos Santana agreed to a multi-year contract Monday, April 9. An official announcement is expected by the team Tuesday, April 10. The deal is expected to cover his arbitration years and possibly his first year of free-agent eligibility. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta said Wednesday, March 28, that DH Travis Hafner will be his everyday designated hitter. When Hafner does get the day off, it will likely come against a left-handed pitcher. C Carlos Santana is likely to serve as the DH in those games, but Acta made it clear DH will not be a platoon situation.

Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta said C Carlos Santana will serve as the team's everyday catcher this year. C Lou Marson will receive most of the starts against left-handed pitching, when Santana can move to either DH or first base. "Last year, I was able to do more because of the first-base situation," Acta said. "This year is a different story. We do have a first baseman, so Carlos is going to be our everyday guy (at catcher). We're just going to get Lou in there when we can, when we feel Carlos deserves a (rest) and when we feel the matchup is right for Lou." Acta said Marson wouldn't be the designated catcher for certain pitchers.
