Updating previous reports, St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) said he is very concerned about his shoulder injury because it hurts more than it did last season. "It would say at this point it's worse," Garcia said. "There's pain. There's a lot more pain than last year. It started three starts ago. I was feeling great up to that point. Just tried to take care of it, doing little things here or there, and it went downhill. It got worse and worse. I'm very concerned. I'm very concerned."

The St. Louis Cardinals will place SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list because of a shoulder strain. The team will be recalling RP Mitchell Boggs from Triple-A Memphis.
Fantasy Tip: Garcia has pitched pretty well this season but will be missing time because of his shoulder injury. Owners should consider placing him on their bench or disabled list until he is able to return. It is not known who will take his place in the starting rotation at this point.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny had left off the option that SP Jaime Garcia would get two starts on the first road trip of the season, but he will now work the home opener April 8 instead.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) made his spring debut Tuesday, Feb. 26, and tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts in 43 pitches. "I'm excited about today. This is good, but I'm not going to sit here and tell you this is the best I've ever felt. No. This is good. This is good enough. I'm excited about that," Garcia said.

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) was encouraged by his progress after a bullpen session Tuesday, Feb. 12. He estimated it was his seventh or eighth side session already this spring. "I'm really encouraged," Garcia said. "I've been saying this the whole time. I'm feeling strong and healthy. Everything went this offseason as good as it could have gone."
Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals do not plan to limit Garcia's spring workload, and he is on the same throwing program he has followed in the past. If he can return to form, he'll be a solid starter in NL-only leagues, and a decent back-end fantasy rotation guy in mixed formats.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (elbow) looked good while throwing Tuesday, Feb. 12, according to pitching coach Derek Lilliquist. "He looked great," Lilliquist said. "His arm strength is there. The secondary pitches. . . we know he has. Based on what I saw last week and now, everything looks very good." Lilliquist has full confidence that Garcia can bounce back from his injury last season to be a productive member of the rotation. Garcia has thrown off a mound seven or eight times after training in Houston in the offseason.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) will have no restrictions throwing once spring camp opens up. "I'm only worrying about today," Garcia told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Today it's been good. They told me there are no limitations [this spring] as far as I know. I'm ready for no limitations. I'm ready to come in and be like a normal guy."

St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Derek Lindquist said none of the starting pitchers coming to camp will be on any restrictions this spring. SP Adam Wainwright threw a bullpen session Thursday, Feb. 7, the fifth or sixth time he's done so this offseason. SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) threw off flat ground, and he's thrown off a mound five times already in the last few weeks. He'll throw a bullpen session as early as Friday, Feb. 8. "Just based on seeing him throw one time he looks healthy, he's in good shape," Lilliquist said of Garcia. "In talking to him, mentally he's in a good spot. He's excited about the year moving forward and looks to make every start every fifth day." Ps Trevor Rosenthal, Eric Fornataro, Tyler Lyons and Sam Freeman all threw bullpen sessions as well Thursday.
