Tue, 07 May 2013 11:05:43 -0700 Tampa Bay Rays RP Fernando Rodney blew his second save of the season by allowing a walkoff home run to Toronto Blue Jays C J.P. Arencibia Monday, May 6. Rodney allowed just one hit and two earned runs while walking two and striking out one in 1 1/3 innings.
Wed, 03 Apr 2013 13:13:57 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays C Henry Blanco will catch SP R.A. Dickey's next start Sunday, April 7, instead of C J.P. Arencibia, but manager John Gibbons just wants to give Blanco his first start of the season. Gibbons wants to stick with his plan of having two catchers share Dickey's starts. Fantasy Tip: Arencibia's three passed balls yesterday probably didn't do him any favors, but it shouldn't drastically reduce his playing time enough to hurt his fantasy value.
Tue, 02 Apr 2013 21:28:41 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays C J.P. Arencibia had a difficult night handling the knuckleball of SP R.A. Dickey Tuesday, April 2, as the catcher was charged with three passed balls in the first two innings. "Early it was dancing a ton," Arencibia said. "It was really darting every way possible. It made it tough." Arencibia didn't fare much better at the plate. He had a double in four at-bats, but also a pair of strikeouts. Manager John Gibbons said after the game he wouldn't hesitate to start Arencibia in the next start by Dickey. "I wouldn't see why not," Gibbons said.
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 15:34:11 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays C J.P. Arencibia will hit as high as fifth in the batting order against left-handers with 3B Brett Lawrie (rib cage) opening the season on the disabled list. Arencibia hit two homers Monday, March 25, and manager John Gibbons has been impressed with how he's been using the entire field.
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 14:22:30 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays C J.P. Arencibia will start opening day and catch SP R.A. Dickey. He will share catching duties with C Henry Blanco during the season when it's Dickey's turn to pitch. Manager John Gibbons has been impressed with Arencibia when he has caught Dickey this spring. Fantasy Tip: This doesn't really change Arencibia's value at all. He's best suited as a second catcher in two-catcher formats.
Wed, 20 Mar 2013 19:29:39 -0700 The Toronto Blue Jays plan to increase the workload for C J.P. Arencibia over the final two weeks of spring training, seeing what he can handle as the team approaches the regular season. Arencibia's playing time was limited in the World Baseball Classic, as he saw action in just two games with five at-bats. Fantasy Tip: The team really wants Arencibia to familiarize himself with the pitching staff, but the good news is he worked with SP R.A. Dickey during his WBC time. He is a solid fantasy producer for his power potential, but he can be a killer in the batting average department. He hit just .234 last season.
Tue, 26 Feb 2013 14:22:30 -0800 Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said the team will decide who will serve as SP R.A. Dickey's personal catcher after Dickey and C J.P. Arencibia return from the World Baseball Classic. Arencibia caught Dickey in the spring game Monday, Feb. 25.
Thu, 21 Feb 2013 16:22:31 -0800 Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons confirmed that SP R.A. Dickey will have a personal catcher this season. Gibbons seems to be leaning toward using Cs Josh Thole or Henry Blanco over C J.P. Arencibia, though, since both Thole and Blanco have experience catching Dickey with the New York Mets. However, Arencibia has been working with Dickey in recent bullpen sessions and will play with him for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.
Thu, 21 Feb 2013 13:14:43 -0800 Toronto Blue Jays C J.P. Arencibia will be behind the plate Sunday, Feb. 24, and will catch SP R.A. Dickey Monday, Feb. 25. C Josh Thole will be the starting catcher in the spring opener Saturday, Feb. 23.
Wed, 20 Feb 2013 13:02:54 -0800 Toronto Blue Jays C J.P. Arencibia is unlikely to catch SP R.A. Dickey on opening day, with Cs Henry Blanco or Josh Thole in the running to catch Dickey in the season opener. Both Blanco and Thole caught Dickey for the New York Mets, and they'll both catch Dickey in spring games. "If you've got any pitcher on your staff that clearly works better with (a particular) catcher, it would be stupid not to do it that way," manager John Gibbons said.
