"That's the one thing that I'm eager to prove, is that doesn't necessarily go for every player. Turn 30, that doesn't mean that you can't play any more. There are some guys out there that defy the odds, and I'm eager to prove that," Tomlinson said.

"I presented three plans to Dean (Spanos)," Smith said. "Plan A we looked at six or seven times and it couldn't work. It included (Tomlinson's) contract as it currently existed. It never would work. I took a lot of crap over the LT thing, but LT and I are fine."

Chargers | Tomlinson healthy
Mon, 04 May 2009 06:30:59 -0700

The Associated Press reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson (groin) participated in all three days of the team's minicamp after a groin injury kept him from the team's final playoff game last season. "L.T. looks great," head coach Norv Turner said. "He has been out here running for a month, so he didn't show anything different." Tomlinson added, "No, I wasn't restricted and I did everything. Of course you are always concerned because it is the first time back on the field and especially after being injured. But I wasn't restricted at all and it was great."

Chargers | Tomlinson contract update
Wed, 18 Mar 2009 03:55:54 -0700

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson will earn the $6.725 million he was scheduled to make in 2009 as part of his restructured deal, but since $2.875 million of that is in a signing bonus, the Chargers save $1.2 million in cap space. Tomlinson is due a $2 million roster bonus in March 2010, which means the team will have to decide by then if they want to keep him. Even if Tomlinson is released, $1 million of his $3 million 2010 salary is guaranteed. There is a possible $2 million in incentives in 2010. His 2011 salary is $6.150 million. The Chargers save $1.4 million in cap space in 2010 and $2.5 million in 2011.

Andrew Perloff, of SportsIllustrated.com, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson said he wasn't surprised the team wanted to rework his deal; he just wanted the contract to be fair. Tomlinson noted the New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos were all teams that would have made sense had he left San Diego. Tomlinson, who feels he will run for a lot of yards this year, is happy to share touches with RB Darren Sproles, as he feels it will help both of them.

Thu, 12 Mar 2009 13:04:20 -0700

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson said he believes he can be as explosive as he has been in the past. "I think I will continue to be a very explosive player. You guys saw me last year where I was banged up all year, played with a hurt toe and, obviously, with the groin injury. I'll be back to full strength and to being the LT you guys are used to seeing," Tomlinson said.

Chargers | Tomlinson contract update
Tue, 10 Mar 2009 18:00:50 -0700

Updating previous reports, Jason Cole, of Yahoo! Sports, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson will be able to earn the $6.725 million he was scheduled to make in the 2009 season. That was previously his salary under the old deal, but the new deal will consist of both base salary and part signing bonus. He also reworked the final two years of his previous deal. He will reduce his base salaries of $8 million (2010) and $9.275 million (2011). Through incentives, he will be able to earn the money back. Some of it is also being converted to a roster bonus in March 1010, which will give the Chargers an easier decision on whether to keep him.
