San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said Wednesday, Jan. 12, that the quarterback of the future is not on the current roster, and that he'll look to draft, trade or pick up a quarterback via free agency, reports Daniel Brown, of the San Jose Mercury News. "Is the quarterback of the future on this roster? I think it's obvious that he isn't at this point, but things could change and they will change through one of those three vehicles," Baalke said in a radio interview with Mike Florio, of ProFootballTalk.com. It doesn't sound like QBs Alex Smith or Troy Smith are in the plans to start in 2011.

Head coach Mike Singletary said he asked offensive coordinator Mike Johnson to make a game plan that that would allow the possibility for both quarterbacks to play in the game.
