Sugarman said he's willing to be the bad guy who makes Peterson mad by slowing down the rehab process if that's what's best for Peterson's recovery, even though Sugarman thinks it's great that Peterson is optimistic about being on the field. "I love Adrian," Sugarman said. "But let's make this clear: I'm still not going to be quoted as saying he's going to play in the first game. That's not fair. I don't know that ... He'll keep throwing that out there. And good for him. That's great. That's obviously our goal, to get him playing the first game. But only if he's functionally safe to do it. This is our franchise. We can't be foolish about this."

His knee was wrapped, and he cannot put any pressure on it. The team is bracing for the worst, and he said after the game Saturday, Dec. 24, that the injury is worse than his knee ailment in 2007 because his knee was planted. Peterson said he was dealing with extreme pain. He is set for an MRI Saturday night. Sat, 24 Dec 2011 15:26:18 -0800 Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) likely suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament as well as other ligament damage in Week 16. Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners whose leagues run through Week 17 should make alternative plans immediately. Dynasty league managers should brace for the worst by preparing to be without Peterson for the beginning of the 2012 season as well. Toby Gerhart filled in more than adequately while AD was unavailable because of a high ankle sprain; if he's available to owners in either situation, they should do what they can to secure his services. If Peterson did tear his ACL but makes a strong recovery and isn't expected to miss much, if any, time in 2012, he won't be the explosive back fans are accustomed to seeing. It's hard to envision AD being worthy of a first-round pick in redraft leagues next season. The results of the MRI should be known on Christmas Day, if not earlier.

Wed, 21 Dec 2011 06:37:01 -0800 New Orleans Saints LB Jonathan Vilma said his teammates might have been grabbing Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson's (ankle) injured left ankle, as Peterson claims. However, Vilma insists, the Saints never try to maliciously hurt anyone. In fact, corraling powerful, agile running backs around their ankles sometimes is the best way to tackle them. "A guy like Adrian Peterson, he's tough enough to tackle. He had a high ankle sprain, but this guy's so elusive, getting him around the ankles is a good thing," Vilma said. "It's tough to get him down. It's unfortunate he thinks we're aiming for his ankles. He's that good of a talent."

Peterson said after the game he expected the defensive players to target his ankle while trying to bring him down. However, he also took exception to one play when CB Jabari Greer twisted his ankle in a pile up. Peterson says he confronted Greer because he thought that it kind of got out of hand. "I got up and kind of got in his face. Thank God I was able to keep my composure," Peterson said.

Peterson had missed the previous three games because of a high left ankle sprain, and the fact that the Vikings fell behind by 15 points early in the third quarter meant the running game wasn't going to be a central focus of the offense. Peterson wasn't pleased, however. "I don't know how to explain 10 carries," Peterson said. "I don't know. I was ready to roll. I just do my job when I'm called upon. I go out there and try to execute. The game, we got behind, so we kind of had to turn more into a passing team but that didn't work either."
