Fri, 10 May 2013 10:04:47 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill (hand) was told to leave his soft cast on for another week after he had some pain when he attempted to pick up a bat. He will visit with a doctor Sunday, May 12, and undergo a CT scan Monday, May 13. Fantasy Tip: This is a minor setback for Hill, depending what the doctor and CT scan find this weekend. The team was hoping he could return late this month, but that may have to be pushed back to early June. The D-backs will continue to mix and match in the infield with Martin Prado, Cliff Pennington and Didi Gregorius in the meantime. When Hill returns, Gregorius could be sent back to the minors if the Snakes feel he needs more minor league seasoning.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 11:30:31 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Martin Prado is expected to play mostly second base with 2B Aaron Hill (hand) out, but SS Cliff Pennington is also an option at second base, and manager Kirk Gibson said he won't play 3B Eric Chavez at third base more than two days in a row. SS Didi Gregorius will be used primarily at shortstop for the time being. However, general manager Kevin Towers said the team will be conservative with Gregorius' playing time, suggesting he won't play every day. Fantasy Tip: The D-backs' infield alignment, minus first base, will be very fluid for the next few weeks with Hill on the disabled list. The only one that will be playing consistently is Prado. Temper your expectations for Gregorius, especially since it sounds like he won't be playing every day. He's strictly NL-only material for now.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 12:47:14 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Martin Prado is expected to move to second base in the absence of 2B Aaron Hill, who is expected to miss a month with a broken hand. 3B Eric Chavez will take over at third base. SS Didi Gregorius, who was recalled Tuesday, April 16, is likely to start at shortstop Thursday, April 18. Fantasy Tip: Chavez gains value with more PT and can be useful as a corner infield piece in deep mixed leagues. It's unclear exactly how much Gregorius will play with Cliff Pennington also on roster, but Arizona probably wouldn't have brought the youngster up just to ride the pine. Gregorius should be owned in NL leagues, but his stay may not be long, depending on how far along Willie Bloomquist (intercostal) is in his recovery.
Tue, 02 Apr 2013 21:51:34 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Tuesday, April 2, that OF Martin Prado is not an option for the leadoff spot in his lineup, as he prefers Prado in the two-hole.
Fri, 15 Feb 2013 21:52:29 -0800 Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Martin Prado said Friday, Feb. 15, he will play for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. The organization is concerned he will not play enough third base while away, as the Venezuelan team has others plans for him. However, he said he plans to take grounders at third base daily.
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 09:28:12 -0800 The Arizona Diamondbacks have not yet decided where 3B Martin Prado will hit in the batting order this year, even though he has primarily hit second in the lineup in his career. Last year, 2B Aaron Hill performed well out of the No. 2 spot. "I've been in the second hole pretty much all my career because everybody is saying I can put the ball in play. I can hit the ball to right field and handle a lot of situations, so that's more me," Prado said when asked where he preferred to hit. "But the way I say it, I can adjust myself to any situation in the game."
Thu, 31 Jan 2013 12:21:43 -0800 Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Martin Prado will play for Team Venezuela in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Prado will earn $7 million this year and $11 million the following three years as part of his four-year, $40 million extension.
Thu, 31 Jan 2013 10:14:34 -0800 The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed 3B Martin Prado to a four-year deal worth $40 million. The deal will run through the 2016 season.
Thu, 24 Jan 2013 14:29:33 -0800 Updating a previous report, the Arizona Diamondbacks are talking about a long-term contract extension with 3B Martin Prado. "He's looking for some security," Towers said. "We're confident we can get a deal done." Prado filed for $7.05 million in salary arbitration with the Atlanta Braves last week, while the Braves countered at $6.65 million. The D-backs assume that offer with the trade. Prado is expected to be Arizona's primary third baseman.
Thu, 24 Jan 2013 12:32:56 -0800 The Arizona Diamondbacks are hoping to sign recently acquired 3B Martin Prado to a long-term extension soon. Prado is eligible for free agency after the 2013 season.
