Tue, 21 May 2013 20:32:12 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (triceps) has been playing catch, but he said Tuesday, May 21, that while everything is feeling better, he is only throwing around "40 percent."
Sun, 19 May 2013 22:54:38 -0700 Updating previous items, Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington acknowledged when he met with SP Alexi Ogando (biceps) about the pitcher's biceps tendonitis, Ogando revealed that it had been bothering him before his start against the Oakland Athletics. Ogando is now on the 15-day disabled list. "He finally told me that when we were talking and I said 'You can't do that'," Washington said. "He's got a different workload this year. When you are a reliever and you only have to pitch an inning or so, you can pitch through some soreness, but when you are a starter, it's a different situation. You can make it worse."
Fri, 17 May 2013 19:06:40 -0700 Updating a previous report, the MRI for Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (biceps) showed no structural damage. SP Josh Lindblom will take Ogando's turn in the rotation Monday, May 20.
Thu, 16 May 2013 13:52:59 -0700 The Texas Rangers placed SP Alexi Ogando (biceps) on the 15-day disabled list with biceps tendonitis Thursday, May 16, and recalled P Cory Burns in a corresponding move. SP Josh Lindblom will make the start Monday, May 20. Fantasy Tip: Burns will work out of the bullpen and Lindblom is a temporary solution for Ogando's rotation post. Colby Lewis (elbow, triceps) could return soon from the DL before Ogando gets back, so he could slot into the rotation. If not, Martin Perez (arm), who is recovered from a broken arm, could come up. Lewis isn't a bad arm to stash in deep mixed leagues with his return looming.
Thu, 18 Apr 2013 15:31:44 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando allowed five runs and six hits while walking two in just 2 1/3 innings in his loss to the Chicago Cubs Thursday, April 18. He had been 5-0 with a 1.88 ERA in eight career April starts coming into the outing.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 16:18:33 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando will make his scheduled start Thursday, April 18, against the Chicago Cubs despite the rainout Wednesday, April 17. The pitching rotation will not be juggled, and fifth starter SP Justin Grimm will simply have his turn skipped.
Sun, 14 Apr 2013 07:36:55 -0700 Updating previous reports, the Texas Rangers have decided to push SP Yu Darvish's (blister) next start back to Friday, April 19. SPs Derek Holland, Justin Grimm and Alexi Ogando will start against the Chicago Cubs in a three-game series beginning Tuesday, April 16.
Wed, 03 Apr 2013 19:56:43 -0700 The Texas Rangers shut out the Houston Astros for the final 18 innings of the opening three-game set. SP Matt Harrison tied a career-high with nine strikeouts Sunday, March 31, SP Yu Darvish set a career high with 14 strikeouts in his near-perfect game bid Tuesday, April 3, and SP Alexi Ogando had his first-career double-digit strikeout game with 10 punchouts Wednesday, April 4, in a win. The Rangers had 43 strikeouts in the three-game series, breaking the major league record for the first three games of the season set by the 1966 Cleveland Indians pitching staff, which had 42.
Wed, 03 Apr 2013 14:52:49 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando had a career-high 10 strikeouts and allowed four hits in 6 1/3 shutout innings in a win over the Houston Astros Wednesday, April 3. The Astros have struck out a total of 43 times in their first three games.
Tue, 19 Mar 2013 16:48:48 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando continues to improve as he makes the transition to a starting pitcher this spring. His starts this spring have been a mixed bag, and his struggles with command have been his biggest problem. "He is still trying to find command of his fastball, but then in the fourth and fifth innings he started getting better with it," manager Ron Washington said. "He's progressing. Those fourth and fifth innings he starting spotting the fastball the way he could. There's two pitches I know he'd like back. Other than that, I thought he did a good job." Ogando gave up four runs (three earned) and five hits while walking two and striking out three in five innings Tuesday, March 19. He has a 4.17 ERA with a team-high 13 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings. Fantasy Tip: These are the kind of growing pains you should expect with a pitcher that has seen his role change back and forth the past several seasons. He has the makeup and skills to successfully pull this off and become a high-K starter.
