Patriots | Maroney says he has to get back to basics
Sat, 10 Oct 2009 06:43:45 -0700

Ian R. Rapoport, of the Boston Herald, reports New England Patriots RB Laurence Maroney acknowledged that he must change his running style in order to become more effective. "What am I doing differently?" Maroney asked. "I came to the final conclusion that I'm not running the way I used to run. I got to get back to the basics." Although Maroney is aware of the criticism of his alleged toe-tapping running style, he also is aware that if he hits the hole too quickly - and without patience - the run goes nowhere. "That's just as bad as dancing because I'm not really reading the play," Maroney said. "I'm trying to hit it fast and hard, so they can be like, 'Well, at least Maroney was running hard.' It really don't mean nothing if I ain't getting nowhere."

Sun, 02 Aug 2009 23:16:20 -0700

Jeff Zillgitt, of USA Today, reports New England Patriots RB Laurence Maroney wasn't upset the Patriots added RB Fred Taylor during the offseason. Instead, he has looked at it as a "blessing." Maroney said he has learned a lot from Taylor, who also dealt with frustrating injuries throughout his career. Taylor didn't play a full season until his fifth year in the league. RB Kevin Faulk said Maroney has spent a lot of time this offseason working hard to rehab his shoulder. "He wants to be the first guy," Faulk said. Maroney, who feels more comfortable in the offense now, said he feels like he is due for a healthy season and is looking to prove he can avoid injuries. "I feel like the best I've been in a while. Everything's feeling great. Legs feel good. Shoulders feel good," Maroney said.
