Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto normally picks up his right foot around six inches to start his swing, but he tried a new approach Sunday, April 29, which resulted in a two-run homer. Votto didn't lift his foot up, instead opting to lift his heel slightly, but his toes stayed on the ground. He isn't sure if he'll stick with the new approach.

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto is hitting .188 (3-for-16) with six strikeouts in his first six games, and manager Dusty Baker said pitchers are throwing him differently. "They pitched him differently last year than the year before," Baker said. "You get an MVP behind your name, they're going to pitch you differently. They'll spend more time on you at meetings. They will spend more time on you in the video room. Sometimes they run from him and sometimes they run at him."

The Cincinnati Reds officially announced their 10-year deal with 1B Joey Votto Wednesday, April 4, that will extend him through the 2023 season. The deal also includes a team option for 2024. A press conference has been scheduled for Wednesday.
