Thu, 17 May 2012 14:37:48 -0700 Minnesota Twins RP Matt Capps pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Detroit Tigers Thursday, May 17, for his eighth save of the season. Capps struck out one in the 10-pitch outing.
Mon, 14 May 2012 12:57:15 -0700 Minnesota Twins RP Matt Capps, who is 7-for-7 in save chances this year, said his usage of a split-fingered fastball has been a big reason for his success early this year. Capps has thrown five scoreless innings and has allowed two hits and no walks in his last five outings. "It's been a big part of things," Capps said of the split finger. "I think if anything it gets guys off the fastball. Even if the split finger is not the pitch that gets the out, it kind of gets them off the heater and opens up other opportunities with the fastball and things like that. I think that's probably more important than throwing the split for strikes."
Sat, 12 May 2012 13:01:15 -0700 Minnesota Twins RP Matt Capps earned his sixth save of the year Friday, May 11, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He allowed one hit over one scoreless inning.
Sat, 21 Apr 2012 08:37:54 -0700 Minnesota Twins RP Matt Capps pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, April 20, to pick up his fourth save of the season.
Fri, 13 Apr 2012 16:19:13 -0700 Minnesota Twins RP Matt Capps, who has pitched two days in a row, might be unavailable in a save situation Friday, April 13. In that case, RP Glen Perkins would see the save chance.
Thu, 12 Apr 2012 14:43:45 -0700 Minnesota Twins RP Matt Capps allowed two runs on three hits in one inning against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Thursday, April 12, but was able to pick up his second save of the season.
Fri, 30 Mar 2012 20:32:35 -0700 Minnesota Twins RP Matt Capps is working on a split-fingered fastball, but he said Friday, March 30, that the pitch still requires some work. "I'm not good enough with it yet to start it in a specific place (to hitters). But I think it'll be good," Capps said.
Thu, 23 Feb 2012 12:47:14 -0800 Minnesota Twins RP Matt Capps plans to fully stretch himself out this spring. He said he was never allowed to fully stretch himself out with throwing last spring, which led to his rough season. "I'm certainly going to talk to them about getting back to preparing the old way, kind of like a sprinter might go out and run five miles every now and then," Capps said. "I might want to throw three innings just to kind of build the arm up a little bit."
Tue, 14 Feb 2012 15:44:45 -0800 Minnesota Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson said the team asked a lot of RP Matt Capps (forearm) last season, even when he was dealing with an injured forearm. "Here's Cappy taking the ball and going out there every day and not saying a word," Anderson said. "I don't think we ever asked Eddie (Guardado) or Nathan to pitch more than one inning, except once or twice. We asked Cappy to do it about every night." Capps is back to 100 percent health.
