San Francisco Giants RP Brian Wilson (elbow) planned to ride a stationary bike Wednesday, May 16, for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery April 19. He has to be careful, though, since a ligament was taken from his leg and inserted into his elbow.

San Francisco Giants RP Brian Wilson (elbow) said Wednesday, May 16, that he is ahead of schedule in his rehab from Tommy John surgery. Wilson added that he expects to be the closer on opening day next season. "I'll be closing unless someone throws a complete game. Which would be sweet," Wilson said.

The San Francisco Giants said Friday, April 20, that the Tommy John surgery for RP Brian Wilson (elbow) was a success. He had the surgery Thursday, April 19, in Florida, and it is his second reconstruction of the ulnar collateral ligament. The rehab process usually takes 12 months, although it can involve a longer time frame when the patient is undergoing the surgery a second time.

Wilson, who is still expected to have Tommy John surgery, has a "moderate sprain" of the ulnar collateral ligament. Wilson met with renowned Dr. Lewis Yocum Monday, April 16, and he will visit with Dr. James Andrews Wednesday, April 18.

San Francisco Giants RP Brian Wilson (elbow) was upbeat Sunday, April 15, despite the fact season-ending surgery is expected. He said he felt a "pop" in his elbow Thursday, April 12, but had no intention of letting someone else finish the game against the Colorado Rockies. He worked through the pain and nailed down the save, likely his last for the year. "I was able to finish the inning," Wilson said. "My mindset was, 'OK, if it's inflammation, get out of your mess. If it's season-ending, your last pitch is going to be preserving (SP Madison Bumgarner's) win. I'm not walking off the mound a failure." Wilson will meet with renowned Dr. James Andrews soon. He said he has been pitching "on borrowed time", and has been dealing with pain since the 2010 season.
