Wed, 15 May 2013 11:39:15 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies RP Mike Adams (back) said he's still dealing with back problems Wednesday, May 15, and he was unavailable to throw Tuesday, May 14, and said his back felt "the same" Wednesday. He began having back spasms Sunday, May 12. "I'm playing it day by day and seeing how it progresses," Adams said. He's hoping he'll be ready to pitch this weekend. Fantasy Tip: The Phils took a risk signing Adams to a hefty contract in the offseason after he underwent surgery to fix Thoracic Outlet Syndrome in his shoulder. Adams hasn't been the same since, and he hasn't thrown in five days. He's not nearly as effective as he used to be as a setup man with the San Diego Padres, and he's won't be challenging Jonathan Papelbon any time soon for ninth-inning duties.
Tue, 19 Mar 2013 14:28:14 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies RP Jonathan Papelbon (virus) pitched for the first time in five days Tuesday, March 19, and threw a scoreless eighth inning. Fantasy Tip: Papelbon won't come cheap. He's one of the elite closers in the game and doesn't have any competiton for the role - at least not yet - which is hard to find when selecting ninth-inning stoppers these days.
Sun, 17 Mar 2013 10:17:43 -0700 The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to open the season with a seven-man bullpen. RPs Jonathan Papelbon, Mike Adams, Antonio Bastardo and Chad Durbin are locks to make the 25-man roster, leaving seven pitchers in camp to battle for the final three spots. RPs Phillippe Aumont, Jeremy Horst, Michael Stutes and Raul Valdes, along with non-roster invitee Ps Aaron Cook, Rodrigo Lopez and Zach Miner, will compete for those spots.
Thu, 07 Mar 2013 13:36:37 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies RP Jonathan Papelbon (illness) threw a bullpen session Thursday, March 7, but won't pitch Friday, March 8. He's likely to return Saturday, March 9.
Tue, 05 Mar 2013 06:25:21 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies CL Jonathan Papelbon (illness) was scratched from his appearance Tuesday, March 5, due to illness.
Fri, 01 Mar 2013 13:08:58 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies RP Jonathan Papelbon allowed two runs and tossed 28 pitches to get three outs Friday, March 1, and he's given up eight runs in 1 2/3 spring innings for an ERA of 43.20 so far.
Fri, 22 Feb 2013 13:09:15 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies RP Jonathan Papelbon admits he didn't do a good job of serving as a leader for the team and bullpen last year, and he plans to change that in 2013. "I put myself in that category," Papelbon said. "I don't feel like I took a certain leadership as much as I could have with the guys in the bullpen. And I intend to make that change this year. I hope that other guys on this team feel the same way as I do."
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 09:36:38 -0800 Philadelphia Phillies RP Jonathan Papelbon said he used Toradol, a legal anti-inflammatory drug, when he was with the Boston Red Sox from 2005 to 2011. It is a non-steroidal drug that Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz said might have led to esophagitis that kept him out for 20 games. Papelbon said the Phillies told him to stop taking the drug after he signed and took his physical with the team. Papelbon also said that the Red Sox weren't the only team using Toradol legally to treat their players. "It made me feel better. You had to get it about 30 minutes before a game, and it made me feel pretty damn good. It only lasted about four hours maximum. But I never saw anyone else get injected - that's the God's honest truth," Papelbon said. Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey said he was injected with Toradol about a dozen times in 2011 with the New York Mets. The drug, although legal, is raising concerns from medical experts about the effects of long-time use.
Sun, 14 Oct 2012 23:19:48 -0700 The Philadelphia Phillies have said they need to plug third-base and outfield holes, but front-office staff has expressed a desire to add a veteran reliever to bridge the gap to CL Jonathan Papelbon. Many relievers were injured this season, but the team also used 11 pitchers aged 26 and under out of the pen.
Fri, 06 Jul 2012 01:41:41 -0700 A single by New York Mets 3B David Wright gave the Mets a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, July 5, giving Phillies CL Jonathan Papelbon another blown save and a loss.
