Dan Tomasino, of the New York Post, reports former NFL RB Tiki Barber said he does not think the New York Giants off-field issues will affect the team once the season starts. "I don't think it matters," Barber said. "As we saw last year with Michael [Strahan, who skipped training camp], people thought it was going to be a big issue and it turned out not to be. I don't think, come Sundays in the fall, it matters too much to players."

ESPN.com reports retired RB Tiki Barber writes in his new book, "Tiki: My Life in the Game and Beyond," that he may still be playing in the NFL if head coach Tom Coughlin weren't still coaching the New York Giants. "If Tom Coughlin had not remained as head coach of the Giants, I might still be in a Giants uniform," Barber writes in his book, according to the New York Daily News. "(Coughlin) robbed me of what had been one of the most important things I had in my life, which was the joy I felt playing football. I had lost that. He had taken it away."

Judy Battista, of The New York Times, reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning appeared to direct comments at former New York Giants RB and current NBC commentator Tiki Barber Wednesday, Aug. 22. Barber had questioned the leadership ability of Peyton's younger brother, Giants QB Eli Manning, during a television appearance Sunday, Aug. 19. "Ex-players truly become ex-players right away, the No. 1 job is to criticize players," said Peyton. "I'm pretty defensive of all quarterbacks. Eli is my brother. I'm very loyal to my family. I'd rather you criticize me. I don't think anybody knows what it's like to be a quarterback except a current quarterback." Peyton added, "It's supposed to be a code, teammates to teammates. That's the problem we're going to have with ex-players going to the media. When I retire, I know what I don't want to do."

Barber had questioned Manning's leadership ability during a television appearance Sunday, Aug. 19.

Giants | Barber cites Coughlin’s demands for early retirement
Wed, 14 Feb 2007 09:51:07 -0800

ESPN.com reports former New York Giants RB Tiki Barber, who recently has retired from the NFL, blames former head coach Tom Coughlin as part of the reason he decided to retire after 10 seasons. "Coach Coughlin is very hard-nosed, and I didn't get a lot of time off, couldn't sit down and rest myself, and so it was a constant grind -- a physical grind on me that started to take its toll," Barber said. "There'd be days where I couldn't move on Tuesday or Wednesday at practice, and he'd get mad at me for going half-speed.. And I told him, 'Coach, I can't do it. I'm gonna be out here, I'm never gonna miss a practice, but I can't give you what you want all the time.' And he understood."
