Toronto Blue Jays SP Ricky Romero is looking to improve against left-handed hitters this season. Lefties hit .269 with a .372 on-base percentage against Romero last season, to just .194 with an on-base mark of .263 against right-handed hitters. Romero entered the spring looking to refine his cut-fastball, a pitch he has struggled with against lefties. "I haven't really got a chance to work on it in games yet, but in the bullpen, it has been getting better," Romero said. Romero threw two scoreless innings against the Philadelphia Phillies in Grapefruit League action Tuesday, March 6.

Toronto Blue Jays SPs Brandon Morrow and Ricky Romero were among the first group of pitchers to face live hitters Sunday, Feb. 26. The second group will go Monday, Feb. 27, and the progression will continue through next week as the team gets ready for its Grapefruit League opener March 3 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. "There are all the natural progressive steps, going from bullpen, to seeing some hitters in the box, to ultimately getting into a sim game and then games," manager John Farrell said.
