The new approach is designed to put him in a better position to use the whole field, to hit the ball up the middle and to the opposite field. Seitzer is trying to make Gordon's swing more fluid and is all about a better mental approach. Gordon has been starting off his hitting sessions with Seitzer by hitting off a tee to make him use his hands properly, with his feet flat on the ground. When he hits batting practice he hits with certain situations in mind, different counts, different runner alignments and different pitchers. Gordon's main approach throughout batting practice is to hit the ball to the opposite field, an approach that Seitzer thinks will serve Gordon well through the entire 2009 season.
