Fri, 31 May 2013 15:01:10 -0700 Tampa Bay Rays RPs Fernando Rodney, Joel Peralta and Jake McGee aren't available to pitch Friday, May 31. Fantasy Tip: With all those relievers being rested, expect Kyle Farnsworth to get the nod if a save situation presents itself in the ninth inning. Rodney, Peralta and McGee have all had heavy workloads this week.
Fri, 31 May 2013 09:12:54 -0700 Former MLB P Brian Anderson, now with Sun Sports, said Tampa Bay Rays RP Fernando Rodney is struggling because he is lacking fastball command, and opposing hitters are keying on this and staying patient at the plate. That would explain Rodney's high number of walks on the season. Anderson also pointed out some mechanical problems in his delivery, including a double toe tap. Fantasy Tip: Rodney was bound for some regression this year after the record-setting 2012 he had. Walks have plagued him the most this season, but mechanical issues have played their part. He's not in danger of losing the job yet, but those in very deep leagues hunting for save avenues should keep Joel Peralta on their radar. If Rodney can fix his mechanical problems, he could return to a level close to what he showed last season.
Sat, 25 May 2013 18:14:24 -0700 Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon said he still has confidence in RP Fernando Rodney as the team's closer even though he blew a save Saturday, May 25. Fantasy Tip: Rodney has struggled closing out games this season, but it appears he will be getting the next save opportunity. Owners should monitor the situation in case Maddon does decide to make a closer change in the near future. Joel Peralta could be next in line if Rodney loses his job.
Fri, 24 May 2013 13:52:19 -0700 Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon said RP Fernando Rodney remains the team's closer, and there has been no thought to removing him from the role. Fantasy Tip: Rodney has struggled this season, and he's already blown more saves than he did all of last season. Regardless, he's earned a ton of rope from Maddon, so it'll take more gaffes to cough up the closer's role to Joel Peralta or someone else.
Fri, 17 May 2013 14:54:11 -0700 Tampa Bay Rays RP Fernando Rodney is likely unavailable to pitch Friday, May 17, after tossing 35 pitches in his blown save Thursday, May 16. RP Joel Peralta is likely to close if a save situation arises. Fantasy Tip: If you own Peralta in an AL league, make sure he's in your lineup tonight. Rodney shouldn't be on the hot seat for ninth-inning duties. We knew he was in line for some regression after a career year in 2012. It'll take a lot more for him to lose his job.
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 07:56:17 -0800 Tampa Bay Rays RP Joel Peralta (neck) threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session Monday, Feb. 18.
Fri, 15 Feb 2013 18:00:53 -0800 Tampa Bay Rays RP Joel Peralta (neck) is dealing with a stiff neck, and he has been limited in his activities as a result. He was able to play catch Friday, Feb. 15, but he does not anticipate throwing any bullpen sessions for several days. Peralta might be forced to miss the World Baseball Classic for Team Dominican Republic as a result. "The chances don't look good," Peralta said.
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 11:19:53 -0800 Updating a previous item, Tampa Bay Rays RP Joel Peralta (neck) injured his neck getting out of his car when stopping to get sandwiches.
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 07:18:35 -0800 Tampa Bay Rays RP Joel Peralta (neck) is idle Wednesday, Feb. 13, due to an extremely stiff neck.
Tue, 12 Feb 2013 11:09:06 -0800 Tampa Bay Rays RP Joel Peralta said he may not pitch for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic because the team is concerned about the number of innings he may throw this spring after he pitched in winter ball, too.
