He gave up seven hits and six runs while walking five and striking out three. Gallardo came into the game with a 1-7 record and 5.66 ERA against the Cardinals in his career.
Wed, 28 Mar 2012 12:39:15 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers announced SP Yovani Gallardo as their opening day starter.
Sat, 03 Mar 2012 10:09:52 -0800 Milwaukee Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo is scheduled to make his first Cactus League start Tuesday, March 6, against the Oakland Athletics. He is expected to make six starts during spring training and would be in line to start the season opener against the St. Louis Cardinals April 6. It would be his third consecutive Opening Day start. Gallardo would be followed in the rotation by Zack Greinke, Randy Wolf, Shaun Marcum and Chris Narveson.
Fri, 02 Mar 2012 12:55:56 -0800 The Milwaukee Brewers would like to see SP Yovani Gallardo have a much lighter workload this spring, and the righty said he is fine with accommodating that request. He will make his spring debut Tuesday, March 6, after tossing 226 innings in the regular season and making three starts in the playoffs last year. Gallardo usually starts throwing in the offseason Jan. 1, but this year he didn't start until the middle of January.
Mon, 27 Feb 2012 11:24:38 -0800 The Milwaukee Brewers and pitching coach Rick Kranitz are trying to work with SP Yovani Gallardo this spring in order to make him more efficient. He threw four pitches per plate appearance last season, which was the second highest total in the National League. "Sometimes it's not throwing the nastiest pitch you have the first pitch," manager Ron Roenicke said. "There's a lot of guys that you don't see the real nasty breaking ball until you get two strikes, or you don't see the 'humped-up' fastball. ... There's times when it can't be, '100 percent, full-gorilla, this is everything I have from the first pitch through 95.'" The team also wants Gallardo to use his changeup more often, and he is working on it this spring.
Sun, 16 Oct 2011 11:13:38 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said he decided to start SP Shaun Marcum in Game 6 of the NLCS instead of SP Yovani Gallardo on short rest because victories would be necessary in both games for the Brewers to advance to the World Series anyway. "Yo is not an option," Roenicke said. "You guys talk about Yo, and coming back on three days' rest. We have to win tomorrow and the next day. I don't know why I would bring back Yo to win tomorrow when it would hurt us then for the next day and not being able to win. I don't know if there's a difference there. I think it makes sense to keep Yo on his basic rest." If Gallardo had started Game 6 and won, Roenicke would have had to choose between Marcum on extra rest or SP Randy Wolf on short rest for Game 7.
