Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (3-1) struck out a franchise-record 17 batters Friday, April 26, in a victory against the Atlanta Braves. He shattered the previous club record of 16 strikeouts by Mickey Lolich, which he accomplished twice within a three-week period during the 1969 season. Sanchez allowed five hits and one walk over eight scoreless innings but was removed from the game because he had thrown 121 pitches.
