Detroit Tigers RP Bruce Rondon made his first major league appearance Thursday, April 25, against the Kansas City Royals, but it wasn't a good outing. He allowed an earned run and three hits to blow his first save, frittering away a one-run lead and win for SP Justin Verlander in the process. On a positive note, he was able to reach 100 mph on the Comerica Park scoreboard radar gun.

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (thumb) left his start early after developing cracked skin on his right thumb Thursday, April 25, against the Kansas City Royals. He gave up one run in seven innings before leaving, and he's day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: This injury to Verlander's thumb doesn't seem to be too serious, but it could cause him to miss a start. Stay tuned on Detroit's evaluation of their ace.

The Detroit Tigers agreed to a new deal with SP Justin Verlander that could exceed $202 million Friday, March 29, according to sources. His new deal will be for seven years and $180 million with a vesting option for an eighth season that could put the total deal at $202 million. Verlander had $20 million and two years left on his current deal.

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander said he will not talk with the team about a contract extension during the season if he does not sign one before his final spring start because he wants to concentrate on the season. Verlander's final scheduled start will be Wednesday, March 27. There is no indication that the two sides are close to an agreement at this point.

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander said he is open to signing a long-term contract extension to remain with the team for the rest of his career. He has two years at $20 million each remaining on his current contract. "My agent knows where I stand," Verlander said. "He knows I love Detroit. I feel like I'm a kindred part of that town. I grew up in front of these fans, and earned my way into their hearts, and it doesn't happen very often anymore where a guy sticks with one team his whole career. It just doesn't happen. You don't get that kind of loyalty from either side." Verlander prefers not to work on an extension during the season, however.
