"(It) went good," Webb said. "(The) ball came out well, but I was just thinking about arm slot on every throw. That's to be expected, not having thrown on the mound in so long." Webb is still hoping to be ready for Opening Day.

Jerry Crasnick, of ESPN.com, reports Colorado Rockies SP Jeff Francis (shoulder) has made some alterations to his mechanics this offseason to take some strain off of his arm over time. He is taking a more direct line toward home plate and throwing less across his body. "This is not a blow-away type guy," manager Jim Tracy said. "He's an artist who just really knows how to pitch. From that standpoint, he doesn't have to go through a complete re-adjustment period. If anything, he just needs to refine himself command-wise. But nothing has really changed."

The players are Eduard Reyes, 19, Carlos Sosa, 18, and Elvis Mora, 17. "We felt like we maximized our dollars with these three guys," amateur scouting director Bruce Seid said. "They're all 90-plus (mph) velocity guys at 17-19 years old."

He said his fastball has regained its pre-surgery form, but he is still working on his slider. He also said he will have thrown six or seven times off a mound, a couple of times against hitters, before Feb. 20. If the team feels Tankersley is ready to contribute, they could trade fellow left-handed RP Renyel Pinto.
