Jones opted to stay in school instead of coming out last year, and it may have been bittersweet for him. His Spartans went 11-2 and tied for the Big Ten championship, but his individual accomplishments were not as high as his previous year. The Chicago Bears offense will be in better shape entering 2011 because the team's young players will have a full season of offensive coordinator Mike Martz's system under their belt, reports Neil Hayes, of The Chicago Sun Times. Martz should also have a full understanding of the players he has and what it will take for them to be successful. Moving forward, the relationship between Cutler and Martz will define the success - or failure - of the Bears, according to Hayes.

Rams | Julio Jones the best option?
Sun, 27 Feb 2011 08:54:46 -0800

Alabama WR Julio Jones is the most logical first-round draft choice for the St. Louis Rams, reports Jim Thomas, of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Rams' most pressing need is for a big-play wide receiver on the perimeter, and picking at No. 14 overall is a spot in the range many expect Jones to be selected. At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Jones is a big, physical receiver and is able to use his size and fierce attitude to get open, make plays after the catch and block well. Jones said he has a defensive mentality and is not afraid to hit players. "I'm a physical guy. I look for that. I like to hit defensive players because they are not used to getting hit. They're used to hitting offensive players and getting them out of their comfort zone. So when I hit them, I try to get them out of their comfort zone," Jones noted. The Rams have said little about Jones or their need at the receiver position.

Chargers general manager A.J. Smith is no stranger to making draft-day trades, and he views the number of early picks as valuable ammunition to pull off moves. "Five young men, if we stay where we are and execute those five picks, that's a lot of good players. But as you know, we wheel and deal. We could get more picks or less picks by making moves. We're kind of loaded for bear going into (the draft) and we're excited about that," Smith said.

NFL | NFL Players Association plans to decertify soon
Sun, 27 Feb 2011 08:24:28 -0800

Barring a last-minute agreement, which is unexpected, the NFL Players Association plans to decertify by March 3, reports ESPN. It would be done as an effort to pre-empt an NFL owners-generated lockout of the players. Upon decertification, the National Labor Relations Board would lose its hold over the NFLPA and the league owners are then expected to say the decertification is a sham while challenging it in the NLRB. The NFLPA has received unanimous approval from the players to decertify, which was an ongoing process during the past season. The key reason in decertification would be to file an injunction against the NFL owners that, if allowed, would prevent the NFL owners from being able to lock out the players. The NFLPA and NFL owners are scheduled to have another meeting with a federal mediator Tuesday, March 1. However, the two sides had seven days of meetings last week and federal mediator George Cohen said there are significant differences that remain.
