Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley defended WR Dwayne Bowe after he dropped QB Matt Cassel's potential touchdown pass in the endzone in Week 5, according to The Associated Press. Cassel heads into Week 6 ranked 27th among NFL quarterbacks in total passing yards. "Our quarterback played a smart football game, led the team in the fashion he will have to lead it," Haley said. "No. 1, we're 3-1 in the first quarter of the season, which is exactly what we want, or what we will go into the next quarter feeling good about. Dwayne Bowe did so many good things in that game, so many good things," Haley said. "He played smart, he understood the game plan, what he was supposed to do throughout that game plan and he did it at a high level. It just so happens he had an opportunity to make a big play, which is part of his job description, as he did two weeks before. He didn't make it. But Dwayne's arrow is going up. There is no doubt in my mind."

Alexander, a member of the team's practice squad, has had four surgeries on his left knee, the last roughly nine months ago. Atrophy weakened his left thigh, and Alexander has been working in the weight room and with the trainers to try to rebuild the muscle mass. "We'll certainly look at Danario," Spagnuolo said. "He's excited about doing it." However, Spagnuolo was careful not to commit to anything. "We want to make sure he's OK physically," Spagnuolo said. "He's been doing a good job for us. I get the interest and all that. But the health of the player to me is important. So, we'll see."

Green Bay Packers QB Matt Flynn said he was preparing himself to play in Week 6 and expected to get the bulk of the snaps in practice Wednesday, Oct. 13, according to Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. However, according to Flynn, based on his conversations with QB Aaron Rodgers (concussion), he didn't think the concussion Rodgers suffered in Week 5 had affected him greatly. Flynn said he talked to Rodgers both after the game and Monday, Oct. 11, and didn't sense he was suffering from some of the worst symptoms of a concussion. "I think with some of those things, if it's not really severe you can't really tell," Flynn said. "I don't know how severe his is. I don't know what the doctor said, but we talked as we normally do after games, normal conversation." On the plane ride home, Flynn said, he played cards with Rodgers as they normally do and didn't sense he had suffered any memory loss. The coaches will probably come up with a game plan for both quarterbacks this week, but Flynn wasn't writing Rodgers off this week at all. "Hopefully, he'll be ready," Flynn said. "If not, I'll be ready."

Lions | Matthew Stafford's return undecided
Tue, 12 Oct 2010 07:27:24 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (shoulder) continues to heal from a sprained throwing shoulder, but neither he nor head coach Jim Schwartz gave any indication Monday of when Stafford might play again according to Carlos Monarrez, of the Detroit Free Press. "He's making progress," Schwartz said. "Each day that he goes out and does something, he does a little bit more." Stafford said he would continue to test his shoulder. He admitted the danger of re-injuring the shoulder has played a part in the cautious approach to his return. "Obviously, this is an injury that you can play through pain, and obviously I did it last year with my other shoulder," Stafford said. "It's a little bit different being my throwing shoulder. You take another hit on it and it can set you back in a way that you don't really want to be set back. That's part of the thinking."
