Atlanta Braves 3B Chris Johnson is unlikely to be used in a strict platoon but could be used in a soft platoon, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. Johnson batted .395 in 114 at-bats against left-handed pitchers and .231 in 468 at-bats against right-handed pitchers last season. In 2013, he hit .381 in 134 at-bats against lefties and .300 in 384 at-bats against right-handed pitchers. Johnson has gained comfort with his adjusted batting stance, which focused on lowering his hands. He's totaled five hits, including a two-run homer against Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed SP Vance Worley Thursday, March 26, in his past six spring training at-bats.

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto returned to camp Thursday, March 26, after going to the Dominican Republic to be with his mother, who needed open-heart surgery. Cueto missed his scheduled start last Friday, but he feels he's on track for opening day. He was working out with the pitchers Thursday morning. Cueto will have two more spring starts before he faces the Pittsburgh Pirates April 6 in Cincinnati. Manager Bryan Price said Cueto will likely throw in a minor league game in his next outing.
