Athletics | Sean Doolittle to miss start of season?
Mon, 26 Jan 2015 08:54:55 -0800

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is unlikely to be ready for the start of the regular season due to a slight tear of the rotator cuff in his left shoulder. He also has considerable inflammation and irritation in the area. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection Friday, Jan. 23, in an effort to decrease the inflammation and irritation before he starts a rehab plan. There is no timetable for his return, although doctors think he can recover and pitch without undergoing surgery. Doolittle went 2-4 with a 2.73 ERA and 22 saves in 61 outings for Oakland last year.

His contract includes a $6 million bonus for reaching that mark, as well as additional $6 million bonuses for reaching other milestones. The team is in pursuit of avoiding those milestones because of his steroid admissions.
