Mariners | Manager talks playing time

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 15:49:38 -0700

Seattle Mariners DH Corey Hart, 1B Justin Smoak and 1B Logan Morrison will share playing time similarly to their rotation early in the season, according to manager Lloyd McClendon.

FANTASY TIP: Smoak and Hart project to see the lion's share of playing time at first base and designated hitter, respectively. Morrison spelled those two occasionally and spot started in right field early in the season, so he'll still see enough at-bats to maintain his AL-only value. Ultimately, Endy Chavez is the obstacle to everyday at-bats for all three.

Mariners | Michael Saunders update

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 15:48:58 -0700

Updating a previous report, Seattle Mariners OF Michael Saunders (oblique) has a Grade 2 oblique strain and will be out for an extended period of time, according to manager Lloyd McClendon.

FANTASY TIP: Saunders is a potential disabled list stash in AL-only format, if you have an open slot.

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 15:47:16 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Alexander Guerrero (ear) went 3-for-5 with a home run in his return to action with Triple-A Albuquerque Thursday, July 10.

FANTASY TIP: The news of Guerrero's return to play, coupled with Hanley Ramirez's shoulder problems, should at least perk up the ears of NL-only managers looking for middle infield help. If Ramirez's injury bleeds into the second half, the Blue could choose to call up Guerrero.

Reds | Skip Schumaker to DL

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 15:42:49 -0700

The Cincinnati Reds placed 2B Skip Schumaker (concussion) on the 7-day concussion disabled list Friday, July 11, and recalled 1B Donald Lutz from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.

FANTASY TIP: Lutz returns to Cincinnati hoping to provide some much-needed depth to the ailing Reds. You can ignore him in the majority of leagues.

Angels | Jered Weaver starting Saturday

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 15:40:18 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (back) will start Saturday, July 12, against the Texas Rangers.

FANTASY TIP: Consider Weaver a viable option tomorrow. The Rangers lineup is manageable, but Weaver had to leave his previous start early. It is worth noting, given the proximity to the All-Star break and the ability for additional rest, Weaver must be extremely close to 100 percent.

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 15:29:51 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill is hitting leadoff for the 14th time in his career Friday, July 11.

Browns | Offense to focus on ground game

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 15:28:18 -0700

Cleveland Browns SS Donte Whitner said the team's offense will be based on running the football heavily. "I'm going to stand back and let this competition develop and may the best man win, but our offense is gonna be predicated on running the football and being physical in the run game also," Whitner told SiriusXM NFL Radio. "You can't just ask both quarterbacks to stand back there and throw the ball 35, 40 times a game."

FANTASY TIP: New offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's zone-blocking scheme should fit well with Ben Tate's abilities. Tate, who is expected to be the workhorse back for the team, won't come cheaply in drafts this year as a result.

Orioles | Kevin Gausman set for at least two starts

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 15:21:50 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman is expected to start Sunday, July 13, against the New York Yankess and Sunday, July 20, against the Oakland Athletics.

FANTASY TIP: This news bodes well for Gausman sticking in the rotation.

Blue Jays | Mark Buehrle allowing more HRs

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 15:15:57 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle has allowed seven home runs in his last six starts. He only allowed two home runs through his first 12 starts.
