Thu, 24 Apr 2014 10:10:05 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin (knee) said he is fully recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Maclin said if training camp started today, he would be a full go and have no limitations.

FANTASY TIP: Maclin is poised to play a big role in Chip Kelly's offense in 2014 if he can stay healthy. Maclin is likely a No. 3 wide receiver with plenty of upside.

Cubs | Don't have designated closer

Thu, 24 Apr 2014 09:08:56 -0700

Chicago Cubs manager Rick Renteria said he's not sure who his closer is right now. RP Pedro Strop won't be available Thursday, April 24, after throwing 31 pitches Wednesday, April 23.

FANTASY TIP: Not surprising -- no one has stepped up. Hector Rondon has been better than Strop, but Chicago seems to favor using him in setup spots. That could change soon, and he's a decent speculation. Maybe later in the season, Arodys Vizcaino and Kyuji Fujikawa (Tommy John surgery) could chime in, but it's looking like Jose Veras has a solid chance to work his way back into favor. Check if he's available.

Thu, 24 Apr 2014 09:04:13 -0700

The Chicago Cubs placed OF Justin Ruggiano (hamstring) on the disabled list after suffering a Grade 2 strain of his hamstring Wednesday, April 23. He'll be out at least three to four weeks. Ruggiano said he heard a "pop" when he was injured.

FANTASY TIP: Ruggiano had been in a platoon in right field with Nate Schierholtz. Schierholtz should now see more consistent playing time, with Ryan Kalish and Ryan Sweeney as options to spell him if needed. Schierholtz deserves a look in very deep mixed leagues.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino activated

Thu, 24 Apr 2014 09:00:56 -0700

The Boston Red Sox activated OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, April 24.

Thu, 24 Apr 2014 08:56:40 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda admitted to using pine tar during his outing Wednesday, April 23, but said he wasn't doing it to cheat, but rather to get a grip on the ball to ensure he wouldn't hit anyone with an errant pitch. "I fully respect that on a cold night you're trying to get a grip, but when it's that obvious something has got to be said," Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said. Both Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi expect Pineda to be suspended for the incident.

FANTASY TIP: If Pineda is suspended, he's unlikely to miss more than a start or two for the incident. Be prepared to go in another direction for a week if that happens.
