Cardinals | Chandler Catanzaro has rough day

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 21:59:31 -0700

Arizona Cardinals PK Chandler Catanzaro was praised Tuesday, July 29, by head coach Bruce Arians for being perfect through camp, but he missed three kicks in a row during the afternoon practice. Special teams coordinator Amos Jones pulled the rookie aside after the session, and by Catanzaro's body language, he appeared to be unhappy with himself.

FANTASY TIP: Catanzaro is attempting to unseat veteran Jay Feely for the placekicking duties. The starter will be kicking for a contending team with a strong offense, so the winner of the battle could emerge as a strong fantasy option sooner rather than later.

Cardinals | Christian Tupou sidelined

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 21:58:58 -0700

Arizona Cardinals NT Christian Tupou (groin) was sidelined from practice Tuesday, July 29. He was replaced by a combination of players, including DT Anthony McCloud.

Lions | Kevin Ogletree working as No. 3 WR

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 21:44:23 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Kevin Ogletree has been spent time on the top unit each of the first two days of training camp, working as the No. 3 receiver. He is battling WRs Ryan Broyles, Kris Durham, Corey Fuller and Jeremy Ross, among others, for the No. 3 job behind starting WRs Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi singled out Ogletree during the spring as a player that impressed him.

FANTASY TIP: If Ogletree was able to work into a No. 3 role, he would still be more of a WR4 or flex play in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams. However, all it would take is one injury to Johnson or Tate for him to see more targets and relevance.

Lions | TEs working on blocking

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 21:43:37 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew and the other tight ends have split time between working on the offensive line and working with the pass-catching receivers and running backs catching passes. Pettigrew worked with the line while TEs Eric Ebron and Joseph Fauria worked on catching passes Tuesday, July 29. "We rotate and go down there during periods," Pettigrew said. "We have five guys here, why not split up and have some guys down there and some guys down here." Pettigrew said this helps his blocking fundamentals, and aids Ebron and Fauria as well.

Cardinals | Jerraud Powers fills in with first-team

Marlins | Express interest in Jon Lester

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 20:36:26 -0700

The Miami Marlins are interested in acquiring Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester, and they reached out to the team regarding the pitch Tuesday, July 29. The Red Sox are believed to be asking for OF Christian Yelich, a proposal the Marlins would not consider.

FANTASY TIP: Interesting. Miami has worked their way into the postseason race, and Lester would strictly be a rental for the rest of the season, as they likely wouldn't be able to afford him once he hits free agency.

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 20:33:24 -0700

Cardinals | Stepfan Taylor works with first-team

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 20:23:50 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor worked with the first-team offense in place of RB Andre Ellington (neck) Tuesday, July 29. Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com believes the move means that Taylor is ahead of RB Jonathan Dwyer in the battle for the No. 2 RB job.

FANTASY TIP: Should Ellington go down with an injury during the year or prove unable to handle the bulk of the carries, it looks like Taylor could be the back to grab. Keep his name in mind heading into the season.

Pirates | In the mix for Jon Lester?

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 20:22:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester could be on the move to the Pittsburgh Pirates, a team which is viewed as a dark-horse candidate in the pre-trade deadline sweepstakes, according to a major league source. One name at the center of the talks is Double-A switch-hitting prospect OF Joshua Bell, according to sources. The Los Angeles Dodgers are another team believed to be in the running for Lester's service.

FANTASY TIP: The Boston pitcher was scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday, July 30. Other teams pursuing a frontline starter are the Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals and Seattle Mariners. The Milwaukee Brewers are in that club, too, although a report earlier said they are not in on Lester.

Phillies | Cole Hamels deal seems unlikely

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 20:20:41 -0700
