Reds | Brandon Phillips departs with injury

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 18:47:07 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (wrist) left the game Wednesday, July 9, against the Chicago Cubs due to a left wrist injury.

FANTASY TIP: Phillips was making a diving stop and he rolled his wrist and was in obvious pain. Nothing is official, but it certainly looked like more than a day-to-day variety injury given his facial expression. Ramon Santiago took over at second base and would be a decent short-term NL-only fantasy option if Phillips is out a while.

Texans | Andre Johnson might be at camp

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 18:46:44 -0700

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson hinted Wednesday, July 9, in an interview that he might be present for the start of training camp. "Hopefully. We'll see what happens. Camp is three weeks away," Johnson told NFL Network.

Redskins | Ryan Kerrigan aiming higher

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 18:44:40 -0700

Washington Redskins LB Ryan Kerrigan saw his sack total remain the same from 2012 to 2013, his forced fumbles and tackle totals increase, but his pass breakups dipped. Still, he has been very consistent. However, he is aiming higher in 2014. "I'm tired of being consistent," Kerrigan said. "I want to be consistently really, really good. I don't want to be just consistently average anymore. I want to be consistently good."

FANTASY TIP: Kerrigan is still very young and has emerged as a serviceable fantasy option in deeper individual defensive player (IDP) formats.

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter (wrist) suffered a left wrist injury in the top of the fourth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, July 9, while making a diving stop. He was checked out by a trainer but able to remain in the game.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina has thumb sprain

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 18:28:24 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina (thumb) officially left the game Wednesday, July 9, against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to a sprained right thumb, and he will be re-evaluated. He is considered day to day.

Cardinals | Yadier Molina leaves game

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 18:07:54 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina (thumb) left the game in the bottom of the third inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates for a pinch hitter. He injured his thumb sliding in the bottom of the second inning, but remained in the game initially. However, he appeared to be shaking the thumb when in on defense, and he was removed when he returned to the dugout.

FANTASY TIP: This bears watching, as Molina is one of the top catchers in the game. He could have been lifted as a precaution, and it is no big deal. He will likely go for further tests, and more information will be available later.

Pirates | Duke Welker designated

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 18:07:19 -0700

Orioles | Interested in Jorge De La Rosa

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 17:45:53 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles have contacted the Colorado Rockies about SP Jorge De La Rosa, according to a source. The Orioles have done background work on De La Rosa.

FANTASY TIP: A move to a contender might give De La Rosa a nice bump to his fantasy value, although pitching in the ultra-tough American League East is always a little tricky, even when some teams are having less than stellar seasons.

Giants | Angel Pagan to resume activities

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 17:45:32 -0700

Scutaro is scheduled to play nine innings for Triple-A Fresno Thursday, July 10. "He feels pretty comfortable and looking at the reports, his swing is free and easy," Bochy said. "That's what's important to us. He's got the kind of stroke that I don't think needs a lot of at-bats."

Blue Jays | Adam Lind with fractured foot

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 16:58:55 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Adam Lind (foot) has a fracture in his foot, and he's expected to miss six to eight weeks. He will go for a second opinion.

FANTASY TIP: Lind will land on the DL, obviously. He was hitting .320 but with only four homers this season. With Edwin Encarnacion also out, Juan Francisco will likely see the majority of starts at first base. Francisco should already be owned in the majority of leagues.

Rangers | Donnie Murphy becomes free agent

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 16:58:25 -0700

Texas Rangers 2B Donnie Murphy rejected his outright assignment, and the team has put him on unconditional release waivers.

Giants | Marco Scutaro could return in No. 2 spot

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 16:45:31 -0700

San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (back) could return to the No. 2 spot in the lineup, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

FANTASY TIP: The big question is how often will Scutaro play on a weekly basis. Will the Gigantes rest him often to keep him healthy for the entire second half? Scutaro is expected to return from the DL this Friday or Saturday.

Texans | Andre Johnson still unsure of future

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 16:42:06 -0700

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson said he is still unsure if he will be with the team in Week 1.

FANTASY TIP: Johnson's value this year is very much up in the air because of the uncertainty surrounding his future. He might be more of a WR2 with the Texans, but if he's traded, there could be potential for more, even at his age.

Twins | Danny Santana won't return before break

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 16:34:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Danny Santana (knee) has been ruled out of returning from the disabled list this weekend. He'll need to go on a rehab assignment before he returns.

FANTASY TIP: Santana could return immediately following the All-Star break if he can go on a minor league rehab assignment before then.

Orioles | Steven Johnson makes rehab appearance

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 16:22:48 -0700

Baltimore Orioles RP Steven Johnson (shoulder) gave up no hits or runs while walking one and striking out none in two innings with Single-A Aberdeen Wednesday, July 9. He recorded five ground-ball outs.

Twins | Kris Johnson coming up
