Astros | Mike Foltynewicz coming up

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 09:33:22 -0700

Houston Astros SP Mike Foltynewicz will be called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City Friday, Aug. 1. He was 7-7 with a 5.08 ERA with 102 strikeouts in 102 2/3 innings this year, but he'll likely pitch out of the bullpen in Houston. He was selected No. 19 overall in the draft in 2010.

FANTASY TIP: This top prospect obviously has high strikeout upside, but he does fantasy owners no good in Houston's bullpen. If he gains a rotation job sometime in the second half, look to add him only in AL leagues.

Dodgers | Kenley Jansen, J.P. Howell were unavailable

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 09:19:50 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers RPs Kenley Jansen and J.P. Howell were both unavailable to pitch Thursday, July 31, due to recent heavy workloads.

FANTASY TIP: It didn't matter. Clayton Kershaw, the best pitcher on the planet, was pitching, and he was able to wrap up a complete-game victory.

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw continues dominating ways

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 09:16:44 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw gave up nine hits and struck out nine and tied his career-best winning streak of 10 games by beating the Atlanta Braves 2-1 Thursday, July 31. Kershaw also tossed his second straight complete game for the second time in his career. It was his fifth complete game of the year. Kershaw hasn't lost in his last 11 starts and is 10-0 since June 2.

FANTASY TIP: There's not much to say here. Kershaw is hands down the best pitcher in baseball right now.

Braves | Justin Upton scorching hot

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 09:14:13 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Justin Upton is batting .347 with nine runs scored, six doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs in 14 games since the All-Star break.

FANTASY TIP: We all know that Upton is prone to stretches of domination. He also turns that around and can turn in terrible stretches of coldness. Right now, you need to right him while he's hot.

Phillies | Cliff Lee could be done for year

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 09:09:43 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee (elbow) told reporters after the game Thursday, July 31, that he could miss the rest of the season after reinjuring the flexor pronator muscle in his left elbow. "At this point, that's probably the case," Lee said. He will be examined by doctors Saturday, Aug. 2.

FANTASY TIP: If you don't have anymore DL spots to use on your squad, you may want to seriously consider cutting Lee altogether in redraft leagues. At the age of 35, it's highly unlikely that Lee can make a return and be effective this season. David Buchanan is the likely candidate to come up and take Lee's rotation spot. Look to add him in NL-only leagues if that's the case.

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 09:01:31 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Royals 1B Eric Hosmer (finger) will miss three to six weeks with a stress fracture of the third finger of his right hand. He aggravated a previous injury on a check swing Thursday, July 31. Hosmer will be placed on the disabled list.

FANTASY TIP: The likely replacement for Hosmer at first base will be Billy Butler, who has turned it on of late with the stick. Butler has been the team's permanent designated hitter for a while, though, so he'll probably need to be spelled often.

Packers | Eddie Lacy having a superb camp

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 08:59:01 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy is enjoying a strong training camp one week in, breaking powerful runs into the secondary on a daily basis. "You know, I don't think he even cares if it's a zone or a gap scheme," backup Packers QB Matt Flynn said. "He's going to find the hole. He's one of those guys that hates being on the ground." Lacy "couldn't have looked any better," according to one media source.

FANTASY TIP: That is great news for fantasy owners! Lacy, 24, has all of the makings of a stud fantasy back for years to come. Expect him to live up to his mid-RB1 draft placement in 2014.

Orioles | Chris Davis pinch hits

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 08:58:27 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis (illness) entered the game as the designated hitter in the ninth inning Thursday, July 31, and struck out and walked.

FANTASY TIP: There seems to be a good chance that Davis will return to the starting lineup tonight after entering the game late Thursday. Check the Orioles' starting lineup to make sure, though.

Angels | C.J. Wilson expected to start Saturday

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 08:57:31 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (ankle) is expected to return from the disabled list to start Saturday, Aug. 2, against the Tampa Bay Rays. Wilson has been on the DL since July 10 with a sprained right ankle.

FANTASY TIP: Wilson may be readily available in your league because of his injury and his poor performance right before his ankle injury was discovered. Be cautious about picking him up and throwing him back in there immediately.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson out at least two weeks

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 08:49:02 -0700

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson (hamstring) will miss at least two weeks with a hamstring injury.

FANTASY TIP: Robinson needs every rep he can get in practice, so missing two critical weeks will set back his development. He is a late-round flier in the deepest of single-year leagues.

Steelers | Shaun Suisham update

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 08:33:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers PK Shaun Suisham's four-year contract extension has him signed through the 2018 season.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a pronator strain in his left elbow. P Cesar Jimenez was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

FANTASY TIP: Lee's season could be in jeopardy, but place him on your DL for now. David Buchanan could take his rotation spot but is just a NL-only target for depth purposes.

Jets | Calvin Pryor limited

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 07:35:01 -0700

New York Jets SS Calvin Pryor (concussion) is in a non-contact jersey again Friday, Aug. 1.
