Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs set down eight of the nine hitters he faced in his second spring start Sunday, March 9, and he said he's feeling much more comfortable on the mound. The Angels have been hoping that he'll claim the final starting rotation spot, but manager Mike Scioscia hasn't set anything in stone.
Scioscia isn't worried about velocity concerns for Skaggs, and Skaggs credits a longer stride this season as the reason for his return in velocity. "The farther you get out, the harder you throw; you're using your legs more and less stress on the arm," Skaggs said. "It's one of those things, a small mechanical fix that's worked wonders."
FANTASY TIP: Skaggs is still very much a work in progress, but the return in velocity, if it sticks, is encouraging. Owning him in a mixed league is sketchy, but a low investment in AL leagues makes more sense if he opens the year in the rotation.
