New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said P Jenrry Mejia (elbow) should be a candidate for the starting rotation next year if he can remain healthy. Mejia hasn't pitched more than 108 2/3 innings in any of his seven professional seasons, and he had surgery on his right elbow in August. Alderson prefers for his upper-level prospects to open the season in the minors and then be promoted later in the year.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are interested in Japanese SP Masahiro Tanaka, but their interest appears to be lukewarm. The New York Yankees seem to be much more interested and will make more of an effort. Major League Baseball and Japanese officials have not yet agreed on a system to post players, and Tanaka's team hasn't agreed to include him in a posting system.
